WTB: Early Chevy W/T Grille

You know, the one that's darker than the later Cheyenne Grilles from around '92 with that mesh in the openings (speed grille is what the aftermarket calls the mesh). I couldn't find a good picture on Google. I have this picture but it doesn't show the mesh. It's very similar to the Cheyenne grilles but more plain.

I can keep an eye out for one here in Kansas City and the surrounding area if you'd like me to. i'm on craigslist all the time searching through the parts section

Re: WTB: Early Chevy W/T Grille

thanks. I'm looking at "the list" around here, too. I think it will be an oversize shipment, so hoping for cheaper than expensive. I'd give something for the effort if you find anything.

I just got to looking at my '95 Burb and it hit me...W/T grille! My Burb is a worker, they never did that grille in them, mines an ex-sheriff's dept base model (white), and I painted the wheels charcoal which turned out a good bit darker than the Cheyenne grille. That W/T grille with doggone close. I put one in a '95 K/3500 I had for the bolder look. I've been too busy to hit the junkyards, figured I'd pop a WTB up.

I just bought a 95 K3500. a little long in the tooth with 177,000 miles. straight as a pin, no rust, and everybody's favorite, teal green. its a Cheyenne package so pretty bare bones. rubber floor mats and manual windows, but it doesn't leak, and I just put a few new parts on it and it runs out pretty smooth. I do like the deep green of that truck you posted though. that's sweeet

Nice find, if you ask me. Thanks for the compliment. I totally built that truck. It started out as a used car lot special. It was an Emerald Green pickup. I wanted to build the ultimate work truck and ordered a low-profile Reading utility body. Since that's 1/2 the truck, plus the wider tires/wheels required using non-flare fenders w/Bushwacker Extend-A-Fenders, I decided to change the color a bit. I wanted a factory looking color and went with Fairway Green from the same year on Vettes and S10s. It has pearl added, so the flat sudes of the bed tended to cast light differently in certain lighting. I devised a hybrid lightened springs/air bag suspension for the rear so I could drop the tail to pull scaffold and ladders off easier. The list goes on and on to the tune of about $60k. But one day coming home from work it got kinda messed up and I stopped driving it after that. It bummed me out so much I vowed to never put a heap of money into my daily work truck again. That's why I'm running the old Suburban. Heck, people (incl. DOT) don't even know it's a work vehicle, which is cool since it sits full of tools and I can park it w/o worrying about someone taking a crow bar to it.

Yep. Just enough to make you not want to drive it anymore... bummer . I came to a (familiar) tight right bend in the road and the rear came around like I was on ice. The thing was, it was early October and roads were dry. I countered to the left and it whipped back around just as bad, so I was sideways into the opposing lane. Hit a Taurus with my passenger side, flipped up over it (never touched the roof) and landed upside down against the bank on the other side facing back the way I came. I got my bearings, shut it off, and I hear someone saying "watch your eyes, I say "ok", and the window got broken so I could crawl out. It was a county cop and EMTs were right behind him. This road descends to the river that is the county line. It turns out, there had just been a head-on on that curve, the police and VFD had just gone down to the river, turned around, and saw me go topsy turvy over the car. There was antifreeze all over the road and that's what got me. No one got hurt bad and I didn't get charged. But I lost my ultimate work truck. Actually, it was kinda the modern incarnation of a truck I had back in the '80s

Re: WTB: Early Chevy W/T Grille

Thanks, but those are Cheyenne grilles like I have. I was looking for the W/T series grille. I think they were pre-94, a darker shade, with mesh in the openings instead of fins. My wrecked '95 shows it. That truck originally came with the same grille as those on Craigslist and my Suburban. I'm probably going to hold off till spring now. Thanks for watching out

Re: WTB: Early Chevy W/T Grille

I never see them any more. I sold the one on the wrecked '95. Sold that hood, too. Hard to believe both were unharmed. I also sold the Cheyenne grille I took out. Boy, there was a time all that would still be here. Hard times call for tough decisions.

Re: WTB: Early Chevy W/T Grille

She's tweaked, ain't she? The cop who busted my window to let me out asked if I was hurt and I answered in a very bummed voice, "Just my feelings". Then he said, "That was nice truck". "Yeah" was all I said as I dazed at it. I had about 15k on a custom-built Peninsular Marine 6.5TD with a custom cam by Diesel Depot I had them install. With intercooler it was pumping 340+hp. It was kind of a prototype. Peninsular didn't like the idea of using their cam, but after saying I don't care about a warranty I convinced them if this combo worked out it could be their next big thing. As it turned out, no warranty was needed . It was a badass little underdog diesel with more hp than any Cummins, Power Stroke, or Duramax at the time ('02). She was a coal burner...black smoke was what those guys saw. Of course, I didn't build the truck to put diesel punks down (they didn't exist yet anyway), she was built to work. Tool bins and bed loaded with tools, racks loaded with ladders/walkboards/pump jacks, and loaded trailer she's climb the mountains like they were flat. They offered them in 300hp, but I just looked and now they are 340hp, so maybe they use that cam now. I see they now use a forged crank. I always wondered why GM didn't and my post-production version (GEP) still didn't, though the blocks are higher nickle with beefier main webs. I would have liked it to be supercharged. (second vid)
I wish I had a better example, but this thing has one of their motors.
