Moser 12 bolt

1 Attachment(s)
Just got my new moser 12 bolt 3.73 posi unit in. It is a bolt in unit complete with wilwood disks, e brake and all. I bought it for my 72 c-10 Cheyenne super. I made the mistake of ordering it online and there was not an option to choose between 5 or 6 lugs. Their online order form ask for the specific year of the truck. I also choose 70-72 c-10 lowered from a list of applications. Along with that I chose the 1/2 in wheel studs over the 7/16.

It looked great when I knocked the top of the crate off. Then #?*! It is 6 lug. I call the company and immediately get in touch with a sales/customer service rep. I explain that the axles should be 5 lug because in 72 1/2 ton Chevys were a standard 5 lug. He said that isn't right because 4x4's were 6 lug. I said maybe but I bought an axle for a c-10 and not a k-10. I then explained to him the meaning of the c and k designations. He then said that I am incorrect. I am fuming by this point and tell him that I am not going to argue and that he should send out the new axles. He agrees and I now have a new set on the way.

I guess the moral of the story is that computers are great but nothing beats a phone call when ordering new parts for these ole girls.

So are you shipping the 6 lug axles back ?
I'm asking because I need a set of 12 bolt 30 spline axles turned to fit disc breaks with 1/2 studs.

I've heard many times over that Moser has terrible customer service and there is no warranty on their parts. I did just use a set of their axles in my rearend and they fit great but I still have my reservations about buying from them. I'm glad they agreed to send the new axles

I am sending the 6 lugs back and these are 33 spline anyways.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but is that diff for a coil spring rear? If I'm not mistaken, all 4x4s were leaf spring. If that holds true, that sales guy is truly ignorant.

I don't know who is saying that. Moser actually has great service but they cater mainly to racers who know exactly what they want. Clearly, NO ONE puts a warranty on stuff for track use but their reputation is top notch at the dragstrip.

It is set up for coil springs. I didn't even think about trucks with 4wd being leaf springs.

Other than the guy arguing with me over something that he knew nothing about the customer service was satisfactory. No long wait time on the phone. No issue sending out the correct axles.

I had a set of axles made for the Nova,I sent the old ones to make sure. I don't want to defend Moser, but if I was spending that kinda coin over the net,I would have called to verify,as I did with my axles, but I'm old school. Awesome looking Diff. I thought They only made 12 bolts for cars.Way cool. Now you can try breaking it!!!

I read what Fitz wrote about race stuff warranty and know that's generally true so I wanted to give these guys a plug.
FTI Performance in Deland Fl. just replaced the case on the powerglide they built in my Nova. Released the brake at 4000rpm & broke the bellhousing right off. Owner said they should've noticed that the pilot ring on the front of the converter was undersized when they cut it open to freshen it. I never realized the nose of the converter was supported by the rear of the crank. Said he was sorry I had trouble with it & rebuilt it. Dropped it off on Tue. & picked it up on Fri. GOOD PEOPLE TO DO BUSINESS WITH !!

This is very simple. Moser should have the 5-lug/6-lug option on their online order form. Until then, they can expect to spend money on extra shipments of correct axles and returned incorrect ones. It is crucial application data

There IS an opportunity to select 5 or 6 lug on their website but you have to dig for it. It just isn't obvious. Best way to order from them is download the measurement diagram, fill out the numbers they ask for then CALL them!
