Won't Idle When Put In Drive

My 1972 350 w/4wd starts and idles fine but when I put it in drive the motor dies. Any suggestion on what the problem is? Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

Common symptom of a vacuum leak.

What is the RPM's @ idle before putting in gear. A auto should be around 700RPM and maybe a little more.

Stock motor you should check base timming first with no vacuum applied. Then hook vacuum up and check again:chevy:
