Front bumper bolts question

71 Chevy

There are six bolts that mount the front bumper to the brackets. If you look closely, the heads on two of these bolts are more rounded than the other four. The other four come to somewhat a peak, similar to the mushroom in this link (ha!). http://pngimg.com/upload/mushroom_PNG3186.png

I think the two more rounded heads are for the top center. Can you confirm or correct?

Didn't see it when I took them off.

All six bolts are the same.

The bolt heads will differ with the manufacturer. Get a full set form one source and replace the old ones so that they all look the same.

The bolts are all the same from the factory// i think that your bumper may have had bumperrettes on it at some time and somebody lost or destroyed some of the originals

I'm planning to do this anyway. Note, this was the original bumper and the heads are not the same. That said, it could have been taken off at some point, before I got this in 1989.

The original owner had a slot cut out from the bumper and a boat launching hitch welded to it. Shame, the bumper is probably worth recycle only.

I believe the original GM carriage bolts have a higher dome than any replacement that I have seen so far

Are the front bumpers on a 1968 chevy C10 the same for a 1968 GMC C1500? The one on the GMC needs to be replaced.
Thanks in advance for any info.

Re: Front bumper bolts question

Not so sure about the '68 [and '67] GMCs but later GMC bumpers had those rolled-back rims under the Turn Signal/Parking Lamps so the bumper didn't eclipse half the running light. Chevys had those lights higher in the grille or '71 -'72 in the bumper itself.
Other than the cut-outs, the GMC bumper should be just like the '67-'70 Chevys.

Re: Front bumper bolts question

I have my 1972 bumper off and the carriage bolts are unique (in my mind) in that the shiny heads appear to be due to a thin metal wrapped over the top and tucked into the underside of the head. I can see its edge under there.

All my bolts are uniform in shape.
