Speedo hook up
My truck doesn't have a speedo cable... I'm going to get one this weekend, it's a 4x4.... I noticed the hook up on the tranny has something hooked up to it, and I would have to hook my cable to it, looks like some sort of a gear reducer or some sort... It is a 465 tranny, does this stay? Or do I remove it and go straight to the tranny? Thanks... Sorry, no pic right now...

Yes, it stays. The SM465 in my '72 Chevy has one. I call it an adapter. LockDoc |

Re: Speedo hook up
that "adapter" is there to adjust for the different sizes of tires and axle gear ratio to keep your speedometer showing the correct speed

Re: Speedo hook up
Is this adapter adjustable? Or is a one shot only?

I say 'usually' because I've seen adjustable ones many years ago. |
Re: Speedo hook up
Even the automatic transmissions had them as well. I have one on my TH350.

Re: Speedo hook up
they are adjustable, but it's kind of difficult, you have to change the gears on the end of the trans. Plus sense they aren't very common anymore, they are hard to find
