986839 grill guard

I found a grill guard # 986839 is stamped under the right headlight. Is this an factory grill guard and would it fit a 70 chevy. It is currently welded on a 68 C10. Thanks Jim

Yes - I believe that is a dealer accessory GM grill guard.

I believe that is for a GMC, because the up and down bar is set to the middle far enough to allow for the dual headlights of the GMC. The chevy up/down bar is set farther out because of the single light set up. Bruce

If the bumper bolt holes will line up, I think this would work well enough on a Chevy.

Now I don't know for sure but assuming the point above and if it's tall and wide enough it should be fine.

Fixing the missing side bars (GMC's have 4 lights) one could fix that easily with some bar stock, which any welding shop or machine shop could make up for you. We could make it at our welding school so any VTEC should be able to make it also. A novice welder with access to the right tools could fix that.

*I think the addition of expanded metal to the backside of the guard would go a long way to providing grill protection although those done that way never look very good.
