Hey guys. Bomp convinced me to do a build page so here it goes. He said it would keep me accountable and it was the best thing he ever did.

I have been checking out this site for several years and learned so much from posts you guys have made. 60-66 Chevy Trucks on fb and tons of other sites. I just put it together that all of you guys have been helping me all along. Especially the cool cats from the North West.

So this is how it all started. I first saw this truck several years ago for sale and the guy wanted way too much money for it. Fast forward a few season and I found it again on CL and it was half price $1200. It took me a while to chew him down to $800 an shook his hand.

this is what I started with. 292 straight 6, this is the view from under the truck looking up. This is by far my favorite color, ground white walls and the whole whip. It was love at first sight.

I pulled the motor out and got to de-greasing the frame. It was really nasty. there was at least 3 inches of grime and dirt built up on the control arms and everywhere.

Hope the ol 6 banger went to a good home. What's taking its spot?
I remember degreasing the frame on my 66. Wish I had a sandblaster. lol HOURS of work on that. :chevy:

So I got the truck home from the shop. I paid a guy $1500 to put in my motor and trans and he messed it all up. He really didn't do anything and then went out of business. So that was a learning experience.

Here is the new motor. It came out of a 73 Winnebago. Its a 454

I got the frame all stripped and rust free and then painted it with some POR15
and it looks pretty sweet. Stripped the motor down and painted it a 64 GM Blue. Not sure if I like it, I usually like to go with orange or black for the motor but decided to try something different. No, it is not F@#d Blue either.

I got some new valve covers and a new Edelbrock Performer intake. I also stripped and painted the oil pan and it looks really good. Found TDC and got the distributor installed. It's a nice set up with just to wires and no coil. That should be pretty sweet I think.

Today I cut out the transmission cross member. With LOTS of help from my friend Aaron, a sawzall and a grinder. My air compressor crapped out and i was unable to use the air chisel. Right tool for the job conversation........

Anyway I got these great tubular motor mounts from Western Chassis, the price was great and the quality is amazing. I also got a trans mount from CPP and the experience was not so great. Terrible customer service and it took them over two weeks to mail it out, so I was kinda pissed.

I took the day off about a week ago and went to Townsend. It's about 4.5 hours each way so it was a pretty long haul. My 2010 Silverado got 22 MPG!! I was hauling 80 mph the whole way, new state speed limit here in MT, so that is real nice. I picked up a full manual TH400 that is built for 800 hp, way more than I need, but the price was right $600. I tried to chew him down, but he got super offended and almost kicked me out. After smoothing that over we loaded it up. He had quite a collection of cars, including a 64 Chevelle with an 850 HP CARBURATED 560 BBC. It was quite impressive to see the heads on that monster.

Cool build start. I agree on the build thread. Keep adding whatever happens. Might not be much progress or little things, but it is really nice to go back when you are 10 months into the build and start at the beginning and see all the things you did accomplish. Gives me motivation to keep plugging on.

Aaron and I got the motor and transmission mounted. The torque converter lined up with the flex plate so I was really happy about that. I got the CPP cross member in and it worked out pretty good despite not lining up with ANY holes. I've learned nothing on these trucks is "bolt in". I also picked up a Lokar 32" Radical shifter and special ordered it in the midnight black. Its a really good feeling to have the motor mounted and everything fitting great. Now the nickel and diming begins with all the crap I have to buy to get it to turn over. I just dumped another $1200 into Summit parts and I still don't have plugs or wires and the douche bag that "helped" me take the motor out managed to lose the wiring harness I found a new one but am not sure what goes where so any help with that would be appreciated.

here's the ratchet strap setup so I could get the bed off by myself. Still needed some help and I was happy to get it it's kinda scary having it so high up but I used really heavy straps.

Notice the "patina" on the firewall? I use this term loosely and I generally hate the faux finish techniques that some people use to get the look. But this is a cool tip. I use Easy Off Cold, and let it sit on the paint and it makes a cool oxidized look on new paint. I will show you guys more later but it is a really cool tip. I used it to age parts on other projects like my 65 Impala.
