Original Dana 44 or Swap in Dana 44 w/disks
Question for everyone
I am in the process of doing a disk swap on my 1970 K20 Current axles is Dana 44 with drums BOM data is 603036-8 Standard 4.09 gears correct for year 1970 K20 Axles swap is a Dana 44 with disks BOM data is 603793-1 Standard 4.09 gears from a 1977 K20 So here is the question..... Should I swap everything from knuckles out to keep my BOM data correct for the year or should I not bother and swap the whole axles which would be easier for the rebuilt process since I am current driving my 70 k20 as a daily driver? I know doing the complete swap will give me extra strength at the ujoints moving from 1310 to the 1350 ujoints |
Re: Original Dana 44 or Swap in Dana 44 w/disks
If you don't care about the bom being right, I'd just replace what's necessary to get the 77 axle road worthy and swap the whole thing in. Much quicker and more efficient.
You can always save the original axle incase you want to sell the truck with matching boms or something like that.(doubt that would help the value much) |

I'd just swap.

That is what I was going with... I just had 2nd thoughts before I started rebuilding the 77 axle.

If ya did just swap from knuckles out then sold the truck the next owner may run into issues figuring out what he's got, i'd swap the whole axle.
