My 52 GMC: revisited

Hi everyone, my name is Dan, I have been an avid reader of this forum for about 3 years and have followed and read many threads. I must say that you all have blown my mind with all of your quality skills and knowledge with Mechanical, Electrical, Bodywork, Painting, and best of all superb fabrication! Congrats on each of your builds! I only wish I had half the skills and knowledge that has been shown on this forum. Best of all is that I get to learn it all right here and hopefully I will join in the fun with another truck project with only me, myself and I working on it, and all of the expertise on this forum to help me along.

My truck has actually been on here last year, as Chris (Skymangs) has been an important part of my truck build.
I have some pictures and history of the build before Chris put his quality work into it. I just wanted to share it with everyone, including Chris who probably never saw these, as when he picked it up from my house it was all in pieces. I hope you enjoy!

:gmc2:

History: My truck, I found on a farm property with a friend of mine. The property and home was in foreclosure, so after talking with the realtor I had found out the owner of the property was part of a family that attended church with me. I told them that I acquired the truck and made plans to make it a drivable. They were excited that I was able to get it and keep it "sort of in the family". Just a month before I got the truck the granddaughter took pictures with it as an announcement for their engagement. The family told me that this was originally owned by a construction company near me about 15 minutes away. Then it was bought by the grandfather in this family and it became the family farm truck, with everything original like it was built. I don't have many pictures of it when picking it up, but a lot of pictures after it was in my driveway. So now I am the third owner of the truck.

Here it is basking under the tree:

Howdy neighbor.

Throw a rock 60 miles west and you will hit my house.

Hi aknovaman! Yes you aren't too far away at all, in fact I know there are some others on here that may be closer, which is great! I would love to meet you and the others and see your builds. :metal:
I may have already, I've been to a few meets, and a couple of Midwest Nationals. Hopefully I will have mine there soon. Seems that my truck is on hold while my full time job and my full time family seem to take precedence. Of course that's why it's called a project I suppose.

So here it is in my driveway, and I may have the pictures out of order but this is during the removal process.

So after the removal of all the parts, I stored the cab in the garage, and traded the rest of the truck for a 1954 bed, which I stored behind the house. I have a lot of driveway but little garage space at that time.

It did have a good frame but the rear end and the motor were locked up, and I was aiming for an S-10 swap anyhow so I was better off without the rest of it.
The s-10 I grabbed off an auction site for about 400 bucks running and drove it home, the shocks were toast, so I was bouncing all over the road coming home, it was quite a sight to see. The following pictures were the ones I took upon the removal process for it, which I needed help from a friend since I didn't have any experience with it and he had the cherry picker.

After both of these trucks were taken apart, I was able to get the s-10 and the gmc cab together with the 54 bed inside the garage until I arranged for Chris (Skymangs) to pick it up.

So there is the intro, and here (the link below) starts the true hard work, performed by Chris (Skymangs). He did a sweet job on it! :metal:
Through it all I learned a lot about this kind of project and what it all encompasses. I also know that without him, I probably would still have the truck in the garage awaiting my next move which would have been when???

I will post more pictures if I can find any on the current work of the truck, I have switched phones since then, and haven't found many pictures. The latest work since Chris has been:
Installing new wheels, new parking/turn signal lights, some interior work, had the doors and windows done by a friend since he had already just worked on his. Also acquired a lot of miscellaneous parts, some of which I may sell. I also plan to put in a new heater and windshield wiper unit. I am looking into getting carpet and my bench seat reupholstered. Probably looking at the spring again to get back on it.
:waah:

Cool deal. Is that a bed frame front grill guard? I have one that says ford on my Chevy.

Sorry, been a busy beginning of a new year at work, haven't been on here in a while. Still looking for pictures. I think I may need to take some when the weather gets better. I have some on Dropbox once I get that on my phone where I can upload a few.

AKANovaman, yes something to that effect for the guard, AKA - brush guard. It was on it when I pulled it from the field. I still have it, but it's not on the truck currently. Message me if you're interested in it.

Here are the only pics I found and these are from last Spring/Summer 2015.
I've since painted the tailgate and rear bumper in flat black for now. I also had the doors redone which aren't shown, but in these pics the newer wheels are on and working-rebuilt parking lights. :metal:

Looks great, I'd drive it just like that! Maybe add a heater. It's really cold right now.
