axle swap question

I have a 69 chevy with a closed knuckle front axle and I would like to swap it to a 77 open knuckle that I have the donor blazer sitting in my yard, my question is the spring pads are 7/16 farther apart on the 77 then on the 69 and the overall axle length is 1 inch longer on the 77, has anyone else ran into this issue, any help would be appreciated.

Re: axle swap question

They are actually the same distance apart. It's pretty much a bolt in deal, steering arm and brakes, maybe shock mounts are differences.

Re: axle swap question

The spring mounting points on the axle (pads) determine the spread of the springs. They should spread the 7/16". The extra axle width is fine.

lank, I've bolted in a '77 D44 under my '67 build without any problems. Also a D60 without any issues. Don't sweat it, IMO you'll be GTG. Again, this is my experience. YMMV (My CYA move!)

I used an 88 blazer gm 10 bolt with no problem on my 67.

Is the transfer case the same also?

Possibly, you'll have to take a look-see and compare

Are you asking if it matters if the transfer cases are not the same. It does not matter. Even if your pinion yoke is not the same you can resolve it with u joint. Your prop shaft should bolt in. But for a sanity check, you should check he front pinon angles and front shaft length. Measure and log angles with vehicle on the ground. Check again after swap. Everything will be close to before swap and you will sleep better knowing it. You should be fine.
