'47 3100 Build in Houston, TX

I'm finally digging into my 1947 3100 project. I bought this truck last fall but ended up having back surgery that kept me from making much progress. Here is what I'm starting with.
Talking to Scott about his front crossmember. I have a TCI rear leaf kit that I am anxious to install. Attachment 1536333 Attachment 1536334 |

Nice project. I did the TCI rear leaf kit on my truck. Its a nice set up to use. I haven't gotten my truck on the road yet though.

Thanks Root. You've got a nice project going. I'm planning on an LS engine as well, but don't have one yet.
Here is the latest progress (no I didnt do all this in 1 day, just catching up this thread) Attachment 1536600 Attachment 1536601 |

I need to find a replacement cab mount cross member. I did find a bolt on replacement on speedway, which lacks the cab mount holes, etc - its just darn expensive. If anyone has access to a replacement, please let me know. Otherwise I'll likely just build one.
I got the rear suspension out of the way yesterday. My buddy's son is getting into cars, so he likes to help. With my bad back, it was sure nice to have a highschool football player for the heavy lifting :) Attachment 1538236 Attachment 1538237 Attachment 1538238 |

Been wayyyy too long since an update. I lost the second half of last year to several major work projects. Now I'm focused on getting this thing rolling.
Got the frame blasted and new crossmember installed back in Feb. Frame is rough shape, but will work. Also decided on going with s10/blazer zr2 rear end. |

The ZR2 rear was in excellent shape. I opened it up for inspection, replaced axle seals and cleaned it up. Temporarily installed this weekend to get it rolling. As I was going to attach the rear shocks I found that they were too short! The rear susp. is a TCI parabolic kit I picked up from speedway. I need to figure that out and am now working on boxing the front to install a Danforth crossmember. These are temporary wheels too... picked the whole set up with tires for $80.
Quick shout out to Hollister Road Company! Can't wait to see the restored cab Dave and crew are working on! |

Re: '47 3100 Build in Houston, TX
Tx99..I don't think the rear axle you have is from a zr2....zr2s didn't have sway bars..zr2s came with 3.73s and a g80 locker and are 3" wider than a standard s10 4x4....just in case you need parts
|
Re: '47 3100 Build in Houston, TX
I like that TCI leaf kit more and more every time I see it. nice work!
dont forget ITP (inland truck parts) for driveshaft work, usually next day work and they work on big rigs, so little sway bars are "cute" to them. Quote:
but they made a 2dr blazer ZR2, so depending on the width its either from a 2dr ZR2 blazer or a regular blazer 4x4 2dr that was equipped with a 5 spd trans, that was the only model that got the 8.5 rear (4.3 5 spd trucks and blazers) I have a 4.3 5 spd longbed and its got the 7.625, so it wasnt a guaranteed thing either. |
Re: '47 3100 Build in Houston, TX
Joedoh..I've got a zr2 blazer in my driveway ...no swaybar..its the second one I've had and neither had a sway bar and ive never seen a rear sway bar on a zr2...the reg 2dr blazer and the zr2 blazer axles are different widths as well

Re: '47 3100 Build in Houston, TX
so probably a 4x4 5spd blazer! rare of the rare
|
Re: '47 3100 Build in Houston, TX
I've seen a few 5spd blazer 4x4s...even rarer is a 5spd zr2 blazer..seen only a few..wish i had one but they are high when you find one

Hey bluetrim, how did your swap go? I am finally posting some update pics. Ive got motor in and hoping for first start today. I bought an aftermarket radiator and it bolts in, but seems to have a more aggresive 'lean' than the original. Hope its OK. Need to test fit fans.
|
Re: '47 3100 Build in Houston, TX
What radiator did you end up going with. We are in about the same spot on progress and almost identical setups. I just ordered a champion. I must have my motor a half inch further forward than you because I have the hooker manifolds too and my passenger one rubbed the frame rail. I clearance the top of the rail and then boxed the whole rail in.

Re: '47 3100 Build in Houston, TX
Welcome Tx99. I'm in Bryan trying to do a 48 swap for my wife and a 54 for the fun of it.
