'66 Brake Fuse

Every time I press the brake pedal the fuse blows. The tail lights will work, but as soon as I press the pedal the fuse blows. Any ides on where I should start looking.

Thanks,
Chance

Re: '66 Brake Fuse

Do you have a wiring schematic of the truck? That would help you a ton but if not, I would follow the wires from each brake light back looking for bare wire, bad splices ect ect.... If it's a single wire for each side and the tail lights work, then the problem is before they're combined into that single wire for each side. Also check to see if you're putting in the right size fuse. Simple things that I don't think of are what always gets me...

Re: '66 Brake Fuse

Everything was working on my truck until I tried and repair some damaged wires. It was raining on my way to work one day, so I was using the wipers. Apparently the previous owner did a poor job splicing a damaged wire and it started to burn some additional wires.

I re-spliced all of the wires behind the dash that had any kind of discoloring. I must have done something wrong as the brake lights are not working. I have rechecked all of the connections and they appear to be good. I'm going to buy the American Autowire harness next month, but I was hoping I could get her back on the road temporarily.

I forgot to mention that I have a wiring schematic that I have been referencing, but I'm a rookie when it comes to electrical work.

I noticed that you also are in Spring. Do you ever make it out to NIfty Fifties?

Chance

I would think that one or more of those wires are spliced to the wrong spot then. They tend to discolor after so long.

I haven't heard of Nifty Fifties, what's that?

Re: '66 Brake Fuse

the brake switch power is 1 of 3 12v+ feed wires into the turn signal switch
study the 60-66 wiring schematics posted in the sticky section above this forum
the turn/stop/hazard can be confusing at first, once you figure out how the switch works it makes life easier :D

start by looking for a dead short after the brake light switch and report back your findings
