Underdash A/C

Talked to the vintage air guys at Louisville Saturday and no-one seemed interested in pointing me towards a unit that fits under dash on my non air 72. My heater works great as well as defrost and replacing that is out of the question. I have seen the old mark 4 units , but just not in 30 years or so. Have any of you guys got a picture, for reference ,of a properly mounted under dash unit in your truck? I would like to see how far they stick out and any feed back is appreciated. There isn't a ton of room from what I see to put one. Thanks.

I don't have a pic, but I would love to have one of those units. Like you, I don't want to replace my working non-a/c heater system.

Here is a picture of the Mark IV unit that was in my '70. It worked great. I have quite a few pictures of how it was installed. Let me know if you want me to post them....

Oh that is neat LocDoc, thanks. Even I might consider such a unit if these summers keep going so hot.

Lockdoc, that's the same setup I remember from way back. The new Mark IV dash unit is deeper, just as I suspected. That is a clean installation on yours and I hope to get the same result. Thanks

I have been considering this myself for my 70 Longhorn. But, if the folks at Vintage Air are kinda useless that could be an issue... Looks great LockDoc! How big a deal is it to install one of these units?

Since the old air products underdash units are generic units, you should look on ebay as old air, like VA and CAA inflate their prices. There are simple under dash units on ebay for around $100.

VA does sell that mark iv unit. Guess they prefer to just push their "sure fit" kits on people. http://www.vintageair.com/2015%20Cat...talog%2050.pdf

The best place to find an original is going to be at a swap meet or on ebay.

I'm not sure. That one was already in the truck when I got it.

Yea, I like the 400 series and will have to go a route like that. Some makers also tell you there needs to be a slight modification to your factory heater box.[ cutting the corner out]. I don't want that for sure. Thanks to all, its been hot this summer and I am not gonna fry next year if I can help it.

The original dealer installed units are hard to beat and they come up on here for sale once in a while. Clardy was a brand that was used a lot. Here is one we have.

I did some searching and you could put a aftermarket under dash kit in pretty cheap. I may go this route next time.:chevy:
