Wheel choice
I'm thinking on running a set of Torque Thrust II's with grey centers on my 68 SWB Fleetside, 17's and 18's or 18's and 20's. Truck has a 5/7 drop.
I'd like to see pics of this wheel on any members truck so I can get a feel for how they'd look. Thanks all. Phil http://www.wheelsforless.com/VNCL2057800 |
Re: Wheel choice
I like the grey center Torque Thrusts. But, Id do 20 front and rear.

Re: Wheel choice
Phil,
I'd vote 18's all the way around or 18/20. I did some 17/18 on the Nova I'm putting together and do not like the look of the 17" rim. |
Re: Wheel choice
I appreciate you guys opinions, I'm leaning 18/20.
Anybody else? Pictures? |
Re: Wheel choice
I think that tire size is as important or more so than wheel size. Here is my truck with a similar wheel. It was a Summit branded wheel when I got it, but I think it's made by Legend? I'm NOT a 20" rim guy no matter how you spin it, so 18's all around is how I would go.
4.5/7 drop with disc conversion in front. 235 55 17 on 17x8 with 4.5" bs front and 275 55 17 rear with 5" bs on 17x9 rim. https://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a...D550/ry%3D400/ |
Re: Wheel choice
Have you considered putting a TT rim on the spare carrier? I'd put a locking lug nut on it so it doesn't wander away, but I wonder how it'd look? Or is the grey truck just a photo showing that style of wheel?

Re: Wheel choice
It's not a fleetside, and the wheels are polished, but 4.5/6.75 drop on 17's.

Re: Wheel choice
15x10 slots ,but only because I have a set showing up in the FedEx truck today

Re: Wheel choice
No, that's my truck. Currently spare bracket is for a 6 lug truck and I converted because I haven't found a 6 lug wheel I like. I plan on putting a 5 lug spare on at some point and haven't decided if I will buy matching rim or stick with a hubcap.

Re: Wheel choice
Hey! I thought this was my thread! Just kidding LOL
Matt and Mike C I like the look of both trucks as the wheel and tire combo fills the wheel well up nicely. Decisions, decisions I'm still conflicted but what ever I decide I'll have to live with. Thanks again all who responded. Phil |
Re: Wheel choice
I think thats great choice of rim for your truck. I wouldn't go more than 18's and run the same size tire on all 4 corners.

I went with the 17x8 255-60/17 fronts and 17x9 275-60/17 rears but got the US Mags wheels through Summit. They're half the cost of the TT's.

Re: Wheel choice
Just to add more confusion, here's my truck with 18x9.5 and 285/40/18 tires all around.

Re: Wheel choice
RodnRudy, let me know what you decide on. I've been thinking about getting those same wheels, but cant decide on 18's or 20's.

Re: Wheel choice
As mentioned earlier it really depends on tire size, expecially on the rear. Wide 18s are more plentiful than 20s (12+ inches that is) also the overall weight of the wheel is less. I like 18s becaus you get a little more side wall on the tire as well and that goes along way in the ride and feel of the truck. Torque thrust is a good choice as well if you are on a budget. You can get those in forged for much cheaper than most all other offerings...stronger and lighter than cast rims...

Here's some boss 338's, 20" all around. I think 20"'s are a good choice.
