Hawaiian blue 2-tone '75 GMC Sierra?

Was there an available factory 2-tone for the Hawaiian blue GMC trucks in 1975? If so, can you tell me what options there were? My late grandfather owned one that I hope to be taking ownership of in the near future. It was originally solid Hawaiian blue, however my dad & a friend painted the areas between the trim & roof a lighter shade of blue. It's not something I like, so eventually I'd like to look at having those areas redone. Without repainting the entire truck, I think the easiest route would be to just repaint those "accent" areas with a different color. However, I'd prefer to do that in a factory paint scheme if there was indeed a 2-tone offered with the Hawaiian blue.

Any details/info are greatly appreciated! :chevy:

Although it was dark when this pic was taken several years ago, it gives you an idea of how the truck looks:

...or not. Looks like it is missing some pages (every other page seems to be missing, perhaps because they were overlooked when scanning two side prints).

The '76 chart shows it was available, which makes it likely for '75.

Thanks Keith! So if I'm reading that correctly, the current scheme would be a Deluxe 2-tone? And the available secondary color would be Frost White?

Oh, okay! So looking at that, other secondary colors were available. I wonder if the current color is indeed Skyline blue? I'm not sure what that color looks like, so I guess I need to research. If so, I guess it indeed has factory colors already. Although I'd have chosen the white secondary color myself.

My '75 GMC is Dark Bright Blue with white. RPO I believe is 25P.

I can try and get a better picture when I get home. Hope that helps.

yes - Deluxe RPO ZY4.

The more I look it appears all the pages are present, they are just in a jumbled order.

My thinking at this point is that only the white would be available in '75. Light blue was available in '76.

Perhaps your dad saw a blue two tone new in '76 and decided to paint his truck to match.

Thanks. It does give me a general perspective.

Thanks Keith.

You may be right. I think my grandfather purchased it in '76 actually, & you might be correct about my dad & his friend painting it to match another 2-tone they saw. I believe the secondary blue on my grandfather's truck is actually darker than the Skyline Blue. Either way, my intentions will be to eventually change it to Frost White.

I really like the blue and white. That was the first squarebody I rode in when I was about 7. Gone was the Chrysler wagon with the 440 and in its place was a blue and white Suburban. Truth be told, if your truck still looks anything like the picture, I say clean it up, lower it, and drive it.

It'll probably stay the current colors for a while, but I would like to change the secondary colors to white at some point. I'm on the fence about lowering. I kind of want to keep it stock. I'm not against lowering though, as I've owned other dropped trucks/SUV's in the past & currently drive a 4/6 dropped '97 Tahoe.

I have a '76 GMC with the original factory color scheme that looks exactly like the picture in your first post. The SPID reports code 23L. Just as you mention, I have often thought that the two-tone scheme would look better with the white accent color, offering more contrast. However the two shades of blue (tone on tone my wife calls it) does have some class. Since I have two blue '76 GMCs I am solving this dilemma by going high contrast with one, and leaving the other with the two-tone blue. Regardless, your '75 looks very sharp - nice legacy for your family.

Thanks for the compliments & info you shared about yours. Would you happen to have any pictures to share?

Whatever the case, cool truck! That didn't really come out completely in my previous post but that's what I was thinking. I get the stock gig. Maybe just down 2/3 inches or so? Would still look stock to most people but would tighten up the wheel well gap. I am very jealous of that rig. Never would have put those two colors together myself but the pic at the beginning of the thread looks great. Would like to see it in the sun.

Thanks. My grandpa took pretty good care of it over the years. I might consider a small drop like you mention, but we'll see. Next time I'm down at their old residence (hopefully in a couple weeks), I plan to take some better pics of it in the daytime. I'll be sure to post them.

A guy recently posted this '76 on a Facebook group I'm in. It looks to have a factory 2-tone blue (not Hawaiian) paint scheme like discussed in this thread. I just wanted to add it here in case anyone else does a similar search.

I personally prefer the blue/blue combo to blue/white, but would really like to see that blue/tan combo! As a kid, I remember a truck in my little town that was a medium green with a lighter green top and middle. It was a 76 4wd with Vector rims and I thought it was one of the prettiest trucks I'd seen. Trust me, it looked better than it reads on paper. Another truck I remember was a black 73 or 74 with woodgrain decal in the center as the 2 tone. I always thought it was custom, but read somewhere it was actually a factory option.

Here is some eye candy for you. This is NOT my truck, but one that was for sale on ebay a while back. I don't know what happened to it. These pictures are what convinced me that the color combo is pretty nice...

Do you remember what specific year this was? Trying to figure out exactly what the original seat would've looked like in my grandfather's truck.

1977.

'77 is the only year with yellow in the body side trim.

Was about to search for something related to this thread & happened to realize I never updated. The secondary blue is definitely darker than Skyline. Still a little on the fence about what to do. I snapped some better pics last year. You can see them here:
