1972 california c10 carb and emissions problem

Hi, I bought a 1972 c10 California truck with a l6 250 engine and a 3 on the tree. The problem is I bought it without a carb, so I am having a huge problem finding a California emissions carb for it. Does anyone know where I could possible find one? The other problem I have is, I can't figure out or find how the vacuum hoses go to the carb. I bought another l6 250 engine that had a 4070022 carb on it, so I wanted to put it on to try and start the motor, but I have one vacuum hose I don't know where it goes. Is there a diagram somewhere on this? All I see is regular emissions, not one with the California emissions pump. Any help would be a great help. Thanks

Are you trying to keep the truck completely original? I ask because the best thing to do is to ditch the Cali emissions & put a federal carb on it.

As far as vacuum hoses, '72's have EVAP systems so there's some hoses but all you need to make it run well is vacuum to the distributor. You can crank it & run it with no vacuum going anywhere.

Oh, welcome to the forum!

You need to find the Maintenance manual. They are for sale at places like ebay. Check around. One of the members here uploaded them, and yours might be in that group. The vacuum diagrams and other information you need will be in it. It is important to have the equipment hooked up correctly, if only to make sure that you don't have fuel fumes in the cab, or get into problems with the fuel tank because of improper venting. I'm not sure exactly when GM went from California/Federal to just US emissions (I think in '75, though, but I'm only certain of that for cars).

'73 and older vehicles are smog exempt in California. Put any carb you want on it.

That would be '75 and older. But if he has a truck that has the gas tank that uses the vapor separator and the charcoal canister, it'll be cheaper to put it back to stock, instead of buying an older style tank. He's already found the correct carburetor.
