Correct side emblems?
So although Ive sort of tried to fight it off I have pretty much everything to change my 68 K20 from GMC to 68 Chevy.
Im wondering what would be the correct side emblems. I looked at a bunch of pictures, but nothing definitive popped up. Looks like a lot of guys just take em off, which is a look I also like. But since i'll have it all apart I thought it might be kind of cool to put the correct emblems back on. It is running a 454 now, not sure if they have the engine size numbers that look stock with 454 one them. I also have a 72 Burb 4x4 I may as well start looking for the correct emblems. It was a K20, but being put back together as a K10. It has the lower belt molding and the upper trim that goes around the base of the windows. Neither truck has a correct spid, so it will be sort of a guess. If you have any pics of either that you know are exactly stock that would be awesome ... thanks! |

68 K20 chev would have had the fender bowtie 20 (unless it was also a Custom Camper, which would replace the bowtie 20) and the 4 wheel drive nameplate under the marker light (with no engine callout). Some non-custom camper K10 and K20 examples below for ref:

here's the 4 wheel drive emblem

Re: Correct side emblems?
As for the 72 Burb, the 4 wheel drive emblem goes away (after 70), and is replaced by the engine callout in that same location below the marker light. The main fender emblem is indicative of the trim level, i.e. Custom, Custom Deluxe, Cheyenne, or Cheyenne Super. So, in other words, K10/20s aren't set up any different from C10/20 in 71/72 when it comes to fender badging. Same rules as for Custom Camper option applies for Cs and Ks alike (i.e. in 71, the carried over 69-70 CustomCamper20 (or 10) fender tag supersedes the fender trim level (replaces, the Custom thru Cheyenne Super emblems), whereas, the trim level always was displayed when the Custom Camper scripts moved to the door in 72-only (for chevs).
Regarding engine callouts - I'm pretty sure LMC (and several others) off stock looking engine callouts with 454, 502, etc - i.e. non-stock engine sizes (if you choose to put one on the 68 anyway or the 72 which would have had one, so wanted to mention). Hope that helps! |
Re: Correct side emblems?
AS Jocko said, the 454 fender emblems are available, but not year correct. Or for that matter, not even generation correct other than design.

Re: Correct side emblems?
Sounds like your Suburban will need Custom Deluxe/10 emblems and if it has an optional engine, that emblem under the front marker. There were only Customs (base) and Custom Deluxe (deluxe, ya think?) trim options on those.

Re: Correct side emblems?
Thanks guys, excellent info. These aren't resto pieces, but I think I would like the look of stock badges. The burb is something I may never get to but I enjoy gathering stuff up for it.

Re: Correct side emblems?
The gathering is a hobby in itself. So is dreaming up builds  < Seriously. Or is it a pastime?

Re: Correct side emblems?
Mark, On making your K20 a Chevy you would only have to add a "4 Wheel Drive" emblem to the front fenders below the marker lights to be technically correct, Since both the GMC and the installed Chevy fenders were originally Custom Camper trucks you have the correct emblems already installed, you could go with either "Custom" or "CST' on the doors

Re: Correct side emblems?
Oh that's right. The reddish parts are the Chevy parts, and the blue is GMC.
So what I really need is better Custom badges for the doors and better Custom Camper badges for the fenders. And like you said the 4x4 for under the marker lights. Ill have to see if those are made aftermarket. I don't care if they are original, just want them to be purdy =) I found my chrome horn button with the clear center. Ill have to see which of my 68 steering wheels is most repairable. |

I'm fairly certain that livrat might be wrong on this one. I have it on good authority that this is the correct emblem you're looking for. ;);) |
Re: Correct side emblems?
The Custom Camper one will be the challenge. Not reproduced.

Re: Correct side emblems?
What would be the correct fender emblem for a base 1971 Chevrolet pickup. The plain C10 callout or Custom/10 callout.
|
Re: Correct side emblems?
Custom/10 was base trim in 71/72 Chevy
EDIT: Typo error. I typed 71/70 when I meant 71/72 I always type the earliest to latest, so not sure what the hay happened there! |

Re: Correct side emblems?
So 69/70 C/10 is the same as 71/72 Custom/10?
|
Re: Correct side emblems?
Yes. In 71/72 they gave the base model a name (Custom) and what was a Custom in 69/70 became the Custom Deluxe in 71/72

Re: Correct side emblems?
Thanks for the info

Re: Correct side emblems?
You got it. Anytime. I enjoy helping. BTW, the RPO codes stayed the same with those name changes
