68 C10 one piece driveshaft question
I have a 68 c10 with a crate 350 and a t350 trans. It has a one-piece driveshaft. Last night the slip yoke broke and destroyed the front u-joint. It looks like before it stopped spinning it made one of the holes on the driveshaft for the u-joint out-of-round. Is there something I can do to fix this without having to get a new yoke welded on or get a new drive shaft? Thanks in advance everyone!

Re: 68 C10 one piece driveshaft question
if its out of round you should replace it. Only way to fix it would be to weld it and machine it, if you have those capabilities. Unless you can do that yourself you are better off replacing it.
Must have been one heck of a burnout, eh? |
Re: 68 C10 one piece driveshaft question
Can you post a picture of the broken yoke? Or describe the broken area to us? Then we may be able to help trouble shoot the cause.

Personally if it was me I would get a whole new set up. But a qualified driveline shop will be able to decide if the shaft is reuseable. I do not know of any method to repair that axle end yoke.

I just ordered a whole new setup. Haha.

Re: 68 C10 one piece driveshaft question
I guess it's too late now. But when I had my driveshaft worked on, I had one out of round like that on the outside where the clip goes on. The bearing cup still went in ok...so they just ground it out some to allow the clip to go in. I wasn't thrilled, because I told them to weld a new one on. But, I have been many miles since with no problem.

Re: 68 C10 one piece driveshaft question
Did you order a driveshaft the same length or did you remeasure for it.
I suspect your yoke wan’t deep enough in the tranny. The wear mark on the yoke shows that. |

I have a scary one for you.I bought a 1968 3 door suburban with a 350 /400 trans it has a 86 inchs 1 peace drive shaft in metal custom made.I checked the by laws you can't run a drive shaft over 50 inches that's 7 foot 2 inches.Trust me it vibrates like **** .I'm planing on putting the 2 peace slip joint back in.Its just better and safer
