1970 C10 Longhorn Dilemma

1 Attachment(s)
A buddy of mine sent me these pictures, and isn't quite sure what his options are. I told him he can replace the cab corner and take care of that issue, but I'm not sure what to do about the damaged portion of the bed. Are there any manufacturers that make a piece to replace the damaged portion of the bed? Or is he gonna have to fab up something on his own? Any ideas/help are greatly appreciated!

That sucks. I'm not a body man, but I'm sure you will hear from someone soon!

I hope, I know it's one of those "one-off" situations, I'm not surprised that they don't reproduce those vertical panels :m6:

Cab corners are available readily thru various suppliers...

The side panels are available but not for Longhorn...and they are very expensive..

The bed lower panels appear to be an relatively easy repair,,,take off the trim strip to get a better idea of how bad its bent..

Hint....cut a cardboard profile template using the other side bed area as a reference...

These lower bed panel sections are single panel and can usually be worked quite easily..

The cab corner is another story...if its not rusted badly,,,remove the seat and possibly the fuel tank, then use a shaped wood paddle the push the cab corner back out....

Get a donor bedside and cut the leading edge off it at roughly 8”. You’ll have to bend/form the rolled edge and the 90* angle to it so it can be spot welded together. Do the same thing for the rear half from the leftover donor side.

His best bet may be to find another Longhorn bed side. I see Longhorn beds selling cheap in CA quite often.

Isn't there a repair panel for the bottom portion? Or is that just behind the wheel? Going to be some specialized work required but seems very doable.

I haven't seen any repair panels for the front part of a Longhorn offered by anyone. The rear is the same as a long bed.

Your friend could probably cut the front off a long bed and flange it and atach it to his bed after he removes the extension piece and straightens the rear portion of the front bed side. GM did not do a very good job attaching these on most I've seen. Also, the bend and flanges are not consistent I've noticed.
