anyone done a 632 BBC swap in a 72?

a close friend of mine has a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 and has purchased a new 632 bbc that he will be putting in his truck. What are some things he is going to need/rework to get this beast to fit. thanks :metal:

That's a tall deck motor, so about the only thing I can think of is booster to valve cover clearance. But it's not tight in stock form, but with tall covers to clear roller rockers plus the deck height... worth measuring.

Also exhaust has to be totally custom because the heads sit higher.

Was the 596 really not enough? That's available in short block, bolt-in in place of a factory 402 ;-)

Re: anyone done a 632 BBC swap in a 72?

ive been trying to find a hood for the truck because i know that it will not fit with the factory hood. been looking for the smallest cowl hood that is very suttle looking but havent had any luck. something that looks as close to stock as possible and it has to be steel not fiberglass...

also, ran into some clearance issues with the front of the engine and radiator. does anyone make a lopro pulley kit or something that will bring the front accessories in? this truck will retain a/c and all. or is pushing the radiator farther forward the only way?

Hmmmm.. My slo-poke 72 K20 has a piece o crap swap motor in it. Hmm... I wonderrrrrr what your buddy is gonna doooo... with his puny 'ol worthless 350? :):):) Hmmm.... (I still have relatives in Indiana!) Hmmmm..... Hmmmmm... ;);)

Good luck with that swap, sounds pretty ambitious. Is this for a monster truck or a stock-ish (otherwise) K20 with a hefty driveline? Curious what other mods and driveline are in store for the truck.

it is a factory 454 truck so that motor has been pulled already! its on 35" bfg all terrains with a 4 inch lift. I will post a picture of the truck.

It will be running a built th400 with a built 205 tcase behind it. the truck will look exactly how it sits so to keep the classic style of the truck. all the internals of the axles will be beefed up with lockers and most likely chromoly shafts. He had to get an adapter to pair the 205 with the th400 which married together great.

That is a great looking truck. But there were no factory big block 4x4 trucks from 67-72 and the 454 wasn’t installed in a truck until 1973. If it had a big block installed at some point, the 632 will go in as well. Just be warned that exhaust is a PITA on a tall deck motor.

The factory 2wd BBC trucks used the short water pump accessory drive. I think early Chevelles had the same parts. It is kind of tight but very do-able.

Sorry meant to say it had a 454 in it when purchased. the Headers will most likely have to be made from scratch. i can already see its going to be a huge pain. the front pulleys and radiator clearance seems to be tough. anyone know of some kind of lo pro pulleys set or someway to extend this gap? Thanks!

Got it, thanks for sharing. I can't imagine what the 632 conversion will end up costing, but, dang, I wouldn't change ANYthing on that beauty! Ha. That's just me though - everyone has their own truck plans & dreams, completely understand that simple fact. I really like that the plan is to keep it semi-stock looking on the outside. Can't wait to see how it progresses and thanks again for sharing.

So the lift on the truck is not a kit. The springs were custom made and arched to his wanting. the rims were also made to 10" wide to accommodate the correct offset and width that he needed to fit and clear the 35" bfg's

nice lookin' rig to start with!

here's a big brodix I looked at in a '71 K20 burb..

got all excited until I noticed all the frame loss and no cross member, just custom perches to the block from each side!

seller sort of inherited so they didn't know too much about it..

but I knew exactly why all the door margins were off and the driver's door wouldn't even close to latch!

then the body had serious issues so I had to leave that one and drag the trailer home m/t :(

from my understanding there weren't any BBC in the K srs because the K frames are narrower than the C frames..

so the point is, you can put anything in anything, just gonna have to fab a little bit sometimes to get it in there right..

look just under #2 plug boot, worse in other places
