72 Extended cab refresh

Built this truck back in 95-96 and drove it about 30K miles (never in the winter) during that time. Decided last January that it could use some cleaning up and paint work so, blew it apart and spent more time and money than I thought I would- unusual l know. The truck was solid red and l always kinda wished I had painted the center white.

Sanded the Imron paint and sprayed it with PPG base/clear going with white insert this time. Cleaned the engine, installed new gaskets and painted it (was rebuilt the first time l built it). Cleaned and painted the chassis, then reassembled the drive train.

Sub'd. Nice chain hoist, I believe that I-beam weighs as much as the bed! (OK, may be not, but it's plenty stout)

I'm also going red & debating about white two tone.

Decided the inside of the old bed was a little rough so, bought a complete bed kit

Put the bed on- this is how the truck currently looks. Hopefully will wrap it up in the next month

Great Job.
I like the rear fill gas tank location.

Looked really good to start with, more awesome now. After you pull cab and bed did you use new cab bushings?..how well does the trim line up when reassembled?

Hoping to install the trim this week, used the same cab bushings- looked good. Thanks for the positive comments

Waxed the inside of the bed today (that was a first). Blasted and painted the spare wheel. Got all the trim on the bed

Really like what you are doing with the extended cab, looks amazing. I built a bed remover similar to yours with a scrap piece of tubing and some old 2x4's. I really like yours better, do you mind if I copy your design I think it would be easier for me to store on the wall out of the way. Again really nice truck and I am going over to read your build thread cant get enough of this stuff.

Very nice truck. I wasn't sure if you still had it or not. Is the extended cab window from an 80's Econoline? I really like how you did the inside of the back of the cab and the panels look spot on. Great work, it looks stellar.

I've been thinking of painting the center of my truck white too. Like I need another thing to do though.

Copy anything that looks helpful. The 2x6’s have a small piece of 1x1” square tubing on each end so that the weight isn’t on the small lip, but on the underside of the bedside top- if that makes sense

Nice looking truck on here, but looks even better in person. Glad I got to check it out when I was down there.
