Why use the offset hole in a flip kit bracket

I know this has been discussed a bit before, but I dont really understand why flip kits that you buy come with the offset hole to move the axle back. Is it simply so you do not need to shorten the driveshaft and somewhat adjust the pinion angle?

I am in the process of flipping my axle now but I will be using real spring perches, set my desired pinion angle and weld them in. But my plan is to weld them in the stock center hole. Then shorten my driveshaft accordingly.

So what is the reason behind the offset hole? Wont it make your wheel not centered in the wheel well?

Am I missing something?

The driveshaft mostly.
When you flip the axle its too long, usually and inch out will fix the driveshaft or move the axle back.

and if you have a factory balloon shaft there not meant to be cut and welded with as the tube wall thickness changes from the balloon process . and most people cant get easy drive shaft mods done local and or pay to send it out and back and labor to do it .

plus moving a axle up / down in the leaf pack changes the center of the tire to the center of the wheel opening on leaf spring stuff .

i just did a 4" flip kit on a 4x4 and the axle was good but a hair forward . but since we had aftermarket perches brand new so cheep we had yet to weld in place we set the axle back 1" in the off set center pin hole in the aftermarket perches and WOW it made a huge improvement in the look and center of the wheel in the opening .

so in short the flip kit U-bracket is meant to have a off set pin hole for a very specific reason for most people buying the kit.

Really? I did not realize it would change the wheel base by moving the axle up or down or at least significant enough to notice it. I will measure my wheel base as it sits now and compare it to what stock is supposed to be for a short bed.

Thanks

Paul

your changing the 2 points of measure in the radius of a arc swing .

when when you go up/down its 1 set of specs . then you flip the axle over the leaf spring or us 4x4 guys lift the suspension via a block with a off set pin hole or shackle flip it moves the arc piviot point and the axle in relation .

its not a tone of change but its there and adds up .

So I measured my wheel base with the hole in the center of the spring perch and my wheel base still measures 117.5" which is what factory is supposed to be.

So with my set up the axle has not changed location according the factory specs. Although I did not measure the wheel base before I did the flip kit. But it is online with the factory specs.

Does anyone have a measurement who used the center hole of the spring perch?

What are you guys measuring for a wheel base? In my last post i said i measured 117.5 but i measured again today with a more accurate method and came up with 118.5.

Online it says stock is 117.5 so it looks like my wheel base grew 1". So the axle flip brackets would actually move my axle back almost 2 inches then (if stock wheelbase is 117.5)

Any thoughts
