th400 yoke conversion

can I take my fixed yoke and counter bore it to convert to one piece driveshaft? Surely someone has done this.

I did several years ago on a 4WD to 2WD Blazer conversion. I used a 350/TH400 from a 2WD Suburban that had the 2-piece driveshaft.

I had a buddy who was a machinist turn the inside splines down to allow the yoke to slip on far enough to clear the shaft. I also just cut the longer driveshaft down and welded the Suburban yoke end of the shaft on to the temp one.

Was not worried about balance at the time as I was doing it as a temp to be able to move it around while being built. The end goal was a new driveshaft cut specific to length to fit the Blazer.

At the time, there was also a conversion yoke being sold already set-up with the proper clearance, but I can't remember the specifics...

You can but you would hove to seal the hole that the bolt goes thru that keeps it in place on the trans. I think it would be easier to get one that is already set up to slide in and out for a one peace drive shaft.

Can be done, just have to balance cost of machine work/threading if you have to pay for it vs cost of the new yoke...
