Radiator and A/C
I am assembling my 63, keeping the L6 250 that came with it and adding A/C. Looking for help, pictures and advice on compressor brackets and location, and radiator size and installation. 2 row of 3 row, electric fan or not, V8 radiator or stock. I'm struggling to get it planned out so I do appreciate the help. First time restorer, can you tell.

I would recommend using as large a radiator and condenser as you can fit in. I would also recommend an electric fan, or dual fans so you can keep the high side pressure under control and the AC working when idling or stuck in traffic.

Here is now my radiator, condenser, and drier with binary switch ended up. I went with Vintage Air, and the kit comes with bracketry and hardlines. I had to make some modifications to the bracket to clear some custom stuff I did on the front and back of the radiator support, but all-in-all it was a quality kit. I also routed the hoses through the radiator support to the far passenger side instead of under the battery tray that the kit's hardlines call for. I used Vintage Air System for my 63. Kit was complete with everything except the pulley for crankshaft. I think I got a double groove pulley from Summit or Ecklers. When I ordered the kit I told them the motor I had in the truck which is a 250 six. A/C bracket for that motor was included with kit. Radiator is 4 row aluminum. Retained mechanical fan and had fan shroud made by local sheet metal company. The other thing I did was install a lower thermostat for summer driving. I have no problem with overheating even in Mississippi summers.

I used Vintage Air and very pleased. Highly recommend an aluminum radiator (champion) and electric fan. Im running a modded 292 with AC-PS. I built a bracket that mounts both the 12si alternator and a GenII power steering pump both on the same bracket. It puts the PS down below the Alt, but you need to run a remote reservoir too. If you need info and better pics let me know.
I had to modify the AC compressor mount for alignment with the groove I used and still have spark plug clearance. don't know why the pictures got rotated, will have to look that up. |
