Headers and the trans mount

1980 C10 1/2 ton. I put a new engine and trans (350/350) in the truck, when I bought it, it came with headers new in the box so I figured I'd use them too. Headmans. They fit great except my drivers side header points straight at the trans mount.

I could do some crazy angles on the exhaust pipe but it seems to me it's easier to just cut the trans mount in half and weld another piece to it and make it go straight across rather than dip down like the stock one does. I have an extra trans mount so I could use the pass side of that mount.

Any reason this won't work? Any other ideas aside from dipping the pipe? I have a nice set of pipes with an H pipe already and would like to just bolt it on.

Thanks for your tips.

Get one from a pre 77 or so. No catalyst converter trucks have a double hump crossmember.
Or get an aftermarket tube style.

Thanks for the info. I just cut my stocker apart and re welded it to get the clearance I needed. I'm going to pick up a tubular one later. Thanks for the links.
