Drive shaft
I was able to reuse the old driveshaft by swapping out yoke. Only issue is I think it may be a tad too short.
When measuring shaft I inserted new yoke and pulled it out 3/4 of an inch. I measured 56”. The old drive shaft is 55”. So it’s an inch too short than what I thought I’d need. The yoke is in about 3” to 3.5”. Is this going to be a problem? I’m not gonna be racing it, but I do expect to drive it frequently and tow cars every now and then. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Drive shaft
I think you should also tell us if your drive shaft is tapered ie 3" middle with 2 3/4" ends for example, also the material used for the piping may be thinner than what they can make you a new full length 3" one these days (3x.083), and what about the U joints are they the bigger kind, do they have the zirc fittings or not (I hear the non zirc fittings ones are stronger) I bit the bullet and dropped the $300 bucks on a new drive shaft for a piece of mind
not to offend you but was the vehicle sitting flat on the ground when you crawled under it to measure it, you don't know how many times I have seen guys measure with the truck still on jack stands it's the towing part that concerns me |
It was on sitting on all fours on a flat surface when I measured. I’m not sure on the rest of the info. I’ll have to look into it.

Re: Drive shaft
It’s not tapered at the ends of the drive shaft. It’s 3” shaft all the way back
