Cab rust

1 Attachment(s)
Just like everyone at some point in time, i got some rust on the back corners of my 62 c10. I have the bed off right now after just replacing all the bed wood and want to get it back on relatively soon. I also know i should get this rust fixed before hand. I’m by no means a body shop guy or a welder. But i was thinking of just filling these small holes with a welder and then grinding it down flat. Will that work? I am more of a rat rod type so it does not have to be perfect. But at some point i might want to give it a nice paint job. Advice? Thanks

would be near impossible to weld rust holes up...cut out and replace is best option

mongo is right. The metal there is so thin that you will be chasing it all over, even on low heat. You will need to buy a cab corner. General practice is to replace only as much of the original sheet metal as needed - don't use the entire patch panel. I remember replacing the cab corners on my dad's 64 and it had a lot less rust than yours and we replaced a tiny spot and I ended up chasing the metal around.

Not the answer i was hoping for. But figured that was going to be the answer. Thanks for your advice. Time to find a welder and buy some patch panels!
