New Jimmy roof question

I bought a pretty nice '72 Jimmy today. Unmolested needs engine work and rocker rust repairs. The top was originally white and has been poorly painted black. How do I remove that and keep the texture on the roof? Is soda blasting too harsh?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Cool that you purchased a '72 Jimmy. I purchased one last year and have just about completed the restoration.

I'm taking my top over to line-x in the morning to have them cover it with their product. I know it won't be an exact match for original, but they look pretty darn good.

To prepare mine, I took a sand blaster, placed it on low pressure and just took off the paint. It worked pretty darn good.

I'll post a pic of the top when I get it back tomorrow.

Soda blasting will be much less harsh than sand; if you have a soda blaster I would at least start with that.

Stripping the textured finish off the top will give you the best opportunity to restore the top 100%. See this post here for info on how to replicate the original texture - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=352

I am looking to do the same thing. I have seen some people have good luck using raptor liner and am thinking about going that route.

Got the top back from Line-x.

Very happy with the results.
