Check out this beauty! My new auto trans crossmember for my 62 C10
Courtesy of Capt Fab of course. No way I could pull this off! No excuse now, time to complete the mock up and get this installed. |

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
What transmission are these designed for? Are they for SWB ? Very interested in knowing details - it looks great!

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Nice !!!

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Yes, it's for a SWB C10. I'll be running a TH350, but it will fit the TH400 as well and I think a couple others.
I think this will more than handle anything I can throw at it! Great quality Quote:

Ya it's a beautiful piece of work!

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Thanks for all the compliments :)

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Ok, can this be true? A TH350 crossmember for a '62??
Will this still fit with the torsion bars in place? The PO of my '62 did a hokey job with the 350/TH350 install and I need something more reliable. |
Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Absolutely true! I have not installed it yet but I've held it in place and it fits great. I'm hoping to do a mock up this weekend if it doesn't rain.
You won't go wrong with Captain Fab. Never seen a complaint about any of his products. |
Re: New Crossmember for a 62
I totally agree!
I have his power steering bracket as well as his power brake bracket. Perfect fit. BUT - will this crossmember fit with your torsion bars in place? |
Re: New Crossmember for a 62
It should - the torsion bars are on the outside of the X, aren't they?

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Nice! CaptianFab do you think it will work for a T5 trans?
|
Re: New Crossmember for a 62
It will work with a T5 if the mount is in the same location as the Powerglide and TH350 relative to the back of the engine.

Got it installed today. Fits like a glove. Mounting holes lined up perfect. Had to drill the top hole in my frame but the lower two matched up like OEM.
Here's a couple pics so you can see the relation to the torsion bars. Even painted it up pretty so you can see it! Sorry they're sideways |

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Hey Captain, a couple of quick questions on this 62 rear crossmember - does this bolt into existing holes in the frame? Can this be installed while leaving the original manual transmission crossmember in place? I'm putting in a Saginaw 3 speed using the original rear bellhousing mount and have seen comments that suggest the Saginaw should be supported in the rear - the transmission has a rear mounting boss. If I install this for the 3 speed, will it be in the right place for an automatic if I go that route down the line? Going into a 62 short bed. Thanks for your help.

Re: New Crossmember for a 62
Yes the trans crossmembers that I am fabricating does bolt into the original factory location using the factory holes, plus one more on each side that needs to be drilled. I patterned them after the OEM auto trans crossmembers. IMO you do not heed an additional crossmember on the rear of a Saginaw 3 speed. GM installed them just hanging off the back of the bellhousing. In fact having too many mounting points can cause binding and breakage. If you really feel you need one, I have one welded up and ready to ship.
