Southern Truck - Sweet!!

2 Attachment(s)
Hey gang. New to things here and I just bought a 72 C15 locally in Ontario. When I went to register it the lady was surprised it only had been in Ontario with one other owner and never registered prior to 2011.

Found out just this last week through some investigation with previous owners that it was actually brought up from Arkansas in 2010!! Music to the ears of any car hobbyist in winter climates like we have. Finding a southern truck clean as this one is, score!!!!

A long shot but if anyone is from Arkansas and sold a Blue 72 4 speed 307 fleetside back in 2011 or knows who might have, it’s in good hands now and will be getting a full restore and new life.

Will try to attach a few pics below.

From a fellow Canuck :canada::welcome2:and your truck looks great. This is the best run and most knowledgeable site on the web to learn and get assistance with any problems you may run into or questions you may have on your truck and find parts.

What town in Arkansas? We have members from the state but it's a lot of area. Congratulations on your purchase. So you are saying someone bought it out of Arkansas in 2010 and brought it to Ontario but never registered it? I'm not sure why the lady was surprised by that. With classics buying is one thing and putting it on the road is another thing. Heck, many restorations take longer than 9 years.

I’m saying that someone bought it in Arkansas and brought it to Ontario and registered it in 2011. The lady was just surprised that a 50 year old truck had only been in Ontario for 10 years and never prior. This was my indication to the fact it was either from the states or out West.

Interesting. Ya this didn’t have any of that on the buyers used vehicle package. I’ll have another look though.

Cool truck! Makes me wonder where it got picked from in our great state. This is at least the second truck from Arkansas that I remember someone on here in Canada having. Seems that one was in Alberta but I could mis-remember.

I saw two setting at a car lot in SE Arkansas earlier this week. I was slowing down and thinking about pulling in when my mind told me I had more projects than time and money. Looked to be a 69-70 and a 71-72 setting in the way back row.

Get it on the road and enjoy it. You got all winter to get it ready for spring.

Absolutely. So far I have bought all new rubbers for the doors and window felts. New set of chrome circle mirrors. Gas neck grommet and new lights and lenses all around.

Next is to get the paint sealed for a patina look truck and then suspension work. Lowering 3” in front 4” out back.

Fun stuff !

I see the truck has the 88-98 GM "Styled Steel" wheels. I think they are a nice looking wheel with center capos and beauty rings. They are 7", too. For some reason they are generally ignored by the truck community.

I also noticed the mirrors. They are 67-70 standard mirrors. I wonder if they were swapped onto the original doors or if your truck has had the doors swapped. Are the interior panels molded plastic with built-in arm rest or flat steel (or maybe vinyl covered) with bolt-on arm rests? Also, right under the window/wing vent divider on the inside, is the a dimple with a screw on each door?

My 67 came from Cabot Arkansas. It was brought up in 89. Those southern guys don't realize how lucky they are. I've had at least 20 of these trucks and the local ones are definitely a commitment. Less rust is soooo much easier. Nice truck by the way.

I questioned that myself in another post. The doors. They do have 67-79 styled mirrors but the interior door panels a are molded plastic panels with armrests. I’ll have to check for the screw by the vent window.

Sounds like you'll find the dimples and screws, '72 doors.

I did indeed. But again weird that I have holes for the 67-70 mirrors or where the holes all the same ?

Back to the comment about the wheels. Are we certain these are 80’s rally wheels and you can tell by looking at them they are 7” not 8 “? What would have come from factory on this 1500 custom?

There it is! Dave's truck was the one I was thinking of. Your 67 and mine were less than 20 minutes apart for at least some of their life.

There were no rally truck wheels from factory in the 67-72 years. The first truck rally wheels for 1/2 ton trucks were from 73 or so to 87 as an upgrade over the base steel wheel. That wheel was available in 7 or 8" widths for pkups and 6 1/2" for vans. It had small slots all around the outside middle of the wheel with wide trim rings and metal center caps. The later so called truck rally was available from 88-98 in 7" width only. It was more of just a steel wheel with a plastic center cap and had a narrow trim ring. This was the base model wheel for those years. There are lots of wheel threads on these forums with lots of pics. I have a clear example or two of the 73-87 rallys. 1st one is a 15x8" 5 lug 2 wheel drive wheel. 2nd and 3rd one is the same but 6 lug with the Corvette style derby center cap. Notice the number and size of the slots are different. The 88-98 steel wheels do not have all those slots and the center caps are plastic.

How can you tell the wheels are 7” on the truck? I have my eye on some 8” but can’t tell if mine are 7 or not without taking them off and measuring. Unless you know by looking. What’s the sign ?

Just read the post above and deleted my reply. I get it now. Yes mine are 7”
