Have this Chevelle steering wheel now. Torn between keeping this one?, or finding a nice truck wheel for a 71?

That one looks nice. Do the horn buttons work?

Nah, put it back in the '68 SS ;)... or sell it to some body that has one. Looks like it's in nice shape.

All I can say is don't sell that wheel until you have the original truck wheel in your hands, and you better have deep pockets if you want a nice original one...:(

Horn would work if I wasn't too lazy to pull the cover off n connect the wires, next rainy day..or snowstorm.
Seen the prices on decent originals Leon, ouch! May just pick one up that isn't completely toasted and restore it. Maybe Santa knows I've been good this year?, no...scratch that. I tried to be good...

Put this one on mine this past summer. To me it looks like it belongs on the truck.

I like the green. Looks nice! I had a'67 C50 with one of those wheels, partial to them...a real truck wheel. Got do do some looking around to see if I can find one and or a match for the '71.
I bet someone with a Chevelle needs what I have as much as I need what I need...lots a needs there.
A car wheel just doesn't cut it but the PO thought this was a stop light cruiser.

I may go that route and backdate my '71 GMC Jimmy to a '68 style 3-spoke wheel, and also move the Wipers over to above the Lights switch, on the left. Choke over Manual Throttle on the right. I like the 3-spokes better.
Yours looks nice.
I hate Grant wheels.
PO had one on my Jimmy when I bought it in 1995. Sucker came off in my hands while in traffic one day. Lucky I was able to recover. But I got that stock 17'' 2-spoke wheel on ASAP. Once on, I was surprized at how much better it steered and handled, too. Can't beat OEM.
As long as it's original GM, I'd use a wheel like MAC71's, but only if I can't find me an OEM.

I'm no expert on steering wheels by any stretch of the imagination but...

closer inspection may reveal that you might come out ok on the swap for a genuine truck wheel for that SS wheel..

You guys have the wheels turning, no pun intended. The wheel is out of a 396 SS Chevelle, I think out of a '68.

I like that car wheel alright. Same era. I like to see car steering wheels used. My '67 will have a '67 Impala N30. Those still had all metal shroud, chrome. I have a customized 67/68 GMC Super Custom horn button for it.

I like the Chevelle wheel also. I have a 67 SS wheel in my 71 myself. The horn buttons work. I also like the 2 spoke wooden wheels from the 60's. I do like the stock wheels in these trucks. I have several old wheels in my inventory that I need to refinish are finish them. I had a Corvette wheel in the 71 for a long time then moved it to the Ramp truck. I made the horn cap for it in the pictures. I started on a 67 wheel and cut it down and re welded it but I have never finished it. Life just keeps getting in the way.:chevy:

Keep that steering wheel in there. It is different and it looks period correct.

Re: Steering wheel opinions, keep it or go original truck wheel?

Well...I picked a nice 67 wheel out of a C20 today. It's got a couple minor cracks but a bit of POR15 and it will be good as new. Still going grab up a 71 one of these days. Hey, can't have enough goodies right?
Know anyone that would need the Chevelle wheel for their car?, or truck? It's in pretty good shape. Had a couple cracks filled at some point and the horn guts are gone.

Those all look really nice Andy...
Hey if they were like earrings we could swap em out depending on the occasion...?!

Re: Steering wheel opinions, keep it or go original truck wheel?

You may want to look at epoxy putty to fix the cracks, somebody may know which 1 to use....I would probably use J B weld.

Re: Steering wheel opinions, keep it or go original truck wheel?

i believe i used jb weld on mine. grinded out the cracks, filled them in and sanded them smooth then primer paint

This came out of a early nova. Looked like a 60-66 c10 wheel the gmc center cap fit in the nova blow ring. The wheel had some small cracks fixed with jb weld.

Bought a 15 inch version of stock steering wheel for my 69 c10. Works and looks great

Re: Steering wheel opinions, keep it or go original truck wheel?

Since picking the '67 wheel I have started doing a restore, if you want to call it that. The POR15 is a 2 part putty like consistity that has good working time and will cut sanding down to a minimum if worked in property. Haven't looked at JB's offering yet, so not sure which one I'm going with. I have all the guts to make it work except the tilt canceling cam, shouldn't be a problem getting one of those. Still going to find a "correct" wheel I like one of these days...maybe trade a Chevelle guy.
