Melling Oil Pump 10778C Pros & Cons...
 

Finishing a rebuild on a 439ci BBC (race motor)...Just wondering if anybody has used this pump? This motor is a balanced 3.76" stroked solid lifter 8000 rpm motor...Do I "need" this anti-cavitation pump or will the standard high volume pump suffice? Looking for experienced opinions...Thanks

These anti cavitation pumps result in a lower pressure at idle than a standard hi volume pump....due to the cavitation slots machined in the cover and housing...


So the question is....Is this a dedicated race engine that spends little time at idle? The 10778C will work ok

or

Is this engine destined for predominantly street use with occasional race use?

Suggest 10778....

Either is a nice improvement over the standard pump....

Make sure you dismantle the pump and smooth over any left over sharp edges on the gears...some of these pumps are really noisy if not cleaned up.

Make sure you use a pickup screen retainer....

No the truck wont see any street use as the 110 octane race gas is $8.00 a gallon :eek: Thanks for the reply. ;)
