Tilt steering turn signal pin removal.

3 Attachment(s)
Was having a rotten time with the half moon connector and figuring out how to get the wiring and connector down Inside the column without completely dissembling the upper column.
Taking the old signal switch return spring clip, I flattened the clip and folded it over making a Swiss Army knife style pair of tweezers. The stiff spring with the small tab ends now slip into the sides of the connector releasing the wire connector from the housing with out damaging anything.
I can now slip the wires through the shift/tilt housing and through the tapered bucket. From their you are home free to slide them into the underside of the column, then rejoin your wires to the half moon.
Hopefully the crappy pics help.

Yup, easy peasy 1,2,3.
Those double sided pin locks are great for keeping things buttoned up tight but what a pain. Those spring contact tweasors worked slick as a whistle, all out with nothing screwed up in under a minute. Wish I had thought of it yesterday!

Thanks Andy! Maybe someone else will see the spring clip idea and it will save a lot of frustration. Have to get both sides at the same time so the old paperclip or small screwdriver idea is out.

a bit off topic but related to you half-moon connector.... hope you don't mind MAC71Cheyenne.

So I bought a shorten Tilt column from a forum member (banned Randy500). I am fairly sure the ribbon is causing some kind of a short up in the column.

The cable in this column has a flat/wide connector, then it goes into an adapter for the half moon dash's connector. Is there some thing with these cables where it could be a flat/wide cable or a half-moon? Perhaps the flat one is just easier to pull through the column?

Thought I ask here, since you just did this replacement and that I'll likely should do this too. Pulling the pins are easy enough and I do like your little tool you made - very clever indeed!

Re: Tilt steering turn signal pin removal.

The flat connector is what the new switches come with. It’s the style GM changed to in 70-something.
New switches come with the adapter so they’re compatible with the old style.
That flat connector has to be de-pinned just like the half moon one.

If you find that you have to replace your switch, buy the non-tilt version and just swap over the shift indicator bulb housing. The mounting tab is there on all the switches. It’s the same part otherwise.

MAC; nice pin tool. That’s way cheaper than the tool truck version.

Thank you clay68c10, that is *very* helpful. Knowing is half the battle!

Don't mind at all Richard. That's why we're here sharing ideas. Clay68c10 said it all so there yah go.
Anything that saves someone from wasting several hours trying to figure this procedure out is a win. If I had thought of it earlier it would have been about 90 minutes start to finish instead of a whole day contemplating and cussing.
