Holley referencing a wide vs narrow frame -help

I have a 67 c20 frame looking to do a 2003 6.0/4l80 swap on.

Holley has a kit I found VK090202 I saw however it references a 67-72 'narrow' frame. They have a separate kit for a 63-67 'wide' frame.

Holley cannot tell me the difference or measurements between either. They also couldn't tell me if these kits are compatible with the c20s vs c10s.

Does anyone know how to tell wide vs narrow on a 67 and have measurements to confirm? I've sent a message to Toddoky asking about the kit, when he responds ill also bring this up. Hoping maybe he knows but no response yet.

The kit looked appealing so I don't have to source those parts separately.

unless your frame is narrower near the mounts for a big block you will have the wide frame. you can see a 1/4-1/2 notch in on the top edge of the frame for about 2ft near the motor mount brackets if yours is narrow frame.

67'S Weren't available with a big block so the frame has to be narrowed for it to fit .see this thread . :chevy:

I did not order the kit you reference, but I do have the separate trans crossmember 71222024HRK.

Mine does not have a dash followed by a number that I believe designates what trans you are using it with. They didn't start that until after I got mine. I got mine very early and made my own 1 inch spacer to raise the rear of the 4L80 instead of ordering one separately from Holley. No you get the spacer based on your trans included.

Do you want me to measure something?

As in this 67 frame is a 'narrow' frame?

67 c20 frame- At the middle (of three) engine mount holes, above the cross member:

Inside to inside: 24 3/4"

outside to outside: 29 3/8" (pic looks closer to 29 1/2" I think because of the angle)

Rail widths @ middle engine mount

67: 2 3/8"
69: 1 3/4"
70: 1 3/4"

Outside to outside measurements

67 (from post #6): 29 3/8"
69: 29"
70: 29"

So all this said I have two options with the Holley kit:

VK090202 - 'Narrow Frame Rails'
VK090196 - 'Wide Frame Rails'

My 67 frame rails (themselves) are wider than the 69/70 frame rails. The 67 also has a wider 'total frame width' than the 69/70 frames I have.

HOWEVER: If Holley means the distance between the frame rails - I suppose the 67 would be the 'narrow' selection.

I would guess my 67 would need VK090196 - 'Wide Frame Rails'. I find this fairly confusing and unclear and dont want to order (a back ordered) kit for $650 that may not fit.

Have you seen this thread, post #37
https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...=790866&page=2

Where Todd mentions the wider frame rails of the earlier trucks?

Seems like you have this worked out. I would bet, if the factory engine stands are interchangeable between C10 and C20, the Holley probably would be too.

I was always under the impression that the C20 frame rails are taller, but that may not start until under the cab.

Jason- I read it before I ran into this and forgot. Could you please confirm:
-Your frame is a c20 and what year
-Measure the width of one frame rail at the middle engine mount hole (2 3/8" or 1 3/4"?)
-Which engine mount part number did you order

I think if you could confirm that I could probably confirm my guess. All is much appreciated Gents

Re: Holley referencing a wide vs narrow frame -help

My truck is a C10, 1968 and has the narrower top part of the frame.

I have the BHS511

I think you are going to be ok ordering the 63-67 Holley part number you reference. If you go look at the pictures of the BHS511 and BHS538, you can clearly see that part the rests on top of the frame is longer(on BHS538) for the earlier trucks.

For the factory engine stands I have never seen any being sold as specific to C20 trucks, so my assumption is that factory C10 and C20 engine stands are interchangeable.

Re: Holley referencing a wide vs narrow frame -help

I ordered VK090196 - 'Wide Frame Rail kit'.

Approx. 35 crossmembers on backorder estimated in Jun
Approx. 4 clamshell inserts on back order estimated in Aug

Rest is in stock. Hopefully they will get some inserts next month sooner than expected.

They said they wont ship until they have everything, I asked because when you add the kit to your cart they all show up separately.

Ill report back when I've got the goods!

I have confirmed my statements above are accurate. My 67 is the wide frame rail. Ill post a video when I get the last mount insert and the transmission crossmember.
