Detent Cable

1 Attachment(s)
I'm struggling to locate a new detent cable with the proper mounting attachment on the cable. This photo is prior to cleaning/painting/installing on the engine and you can see the mounting bolt just in line with the edge of the wood where the detent cable attaches.

Is there a manufacturer of the TH350 detent cable where the attachment on the mounting bracket is a bolt and not the square push through type?

FWIW, here's what LMC shows:

Can't remember what kind of bracket my 69 had from the factory, but it now has one like LMC's. I can't find one that looks like it would fit your bracket. If you have the old cable, please post a photo of it.

I don't believe there are different cables. But there are literally dozens of different brackets that GM used on the different carburetor configurations offered by the different brands.

It's possible yours may be missing a piece or has been modified.

Is your truck a V8 or I6?
A 2 or 4 barrel carburetor?

This thread may help.

When I bought my truck, the detent cable was missing. It had a plug shoved into the entry hole on the transmission.. It also had a bent up dipstick tube and no dipstick.. I bought everything from a local transmission shop.

The 1969 and 1970 Cables and cable retainers are different than the 1971-up ones.
Best I can tell, from your picture, you have the early bracket. The cables and brackets do not interchange. I'll see if I can find my examples and post pictures later.
If you have the later cable it will not attach to the earlier bracket. Much easier to find the later bracket than find the earlier cable.
The LMC bracket MikeB posted in the later style bracket.

Thanks for confirming what I've found, so far. The bracket shown is an option still on the table but I would truly like to keep this vehicle nearly as stock as possible. I say it this way because I have no intention on restoring some items, such as the TSC.

I will get a photo of the detent cable end that mounts with my bracket the next chance I get.

Edit: Just found a photo from another thread that shows how the detent cable mounts to my bracket. This isn't from the pickup I'm working on but shows the mount with the bolt under the tape end.

Check out "CABLE ASSY, Detent Control" part numbers about 2/3 down the page below. Maybe you can determine which one fits your bracket and find a replacement somewhere.

I have an good used cable for the early 350 THm.
They are not in demand. LOL
Let me put an eye on it first but if you want it $10 + the ride.
PM if interested.
Cheers.

Thanks, not much popping up. There must be something undesirable with the design for there to be zero reproductions. Quite interesting that page refers to TV cables...

Re: Detent Cable

With the new design (if you call 1971 new) their is little demand for the old cable.
The updated design is easier to adjust, no tools needed.
It fits with the faster install mandate on every assemble line.
The THM was made from 1969 to 1982 a 13 year run.
With less than 15% of the total production using the old design their is little incentive to repop the early cable.
However, because of it's simple design it may be out there somewhere.
With a simple upper bracket change it can be changed to the newer style cable.
Or in the case of the 350THM you could even run without the detent cable.
It's not possible to run without the TV cable installed on the 700R4-4L60's.
They preform different functions.
Cheers.
