Modern 8 lug wheels ?

I am thinking of buying a set of modern O.E.M. Chevy 8 lug wheels for a 72 C20 3/4 ton truck . I want to use the factory center caps and I need to know are the modern lugs standard or metric thread ? and will I be able to use the modern center caps or not ?

The first paragraph makes everything else suspect in that article .

“ The Chevy 8 lug bolt pattern is standard for use on the 8×6.5″ bolt patterned wheels. This pattern consists of 8 lugs on the front and 6 lugs on the rear“ that’s a real eye opener .

GM changed to 8 x170 mm in 2011 which is bigger than the 8x6.5 bolt pattern . So 2010 and older should work

 "8 lugs in the front and 6 lugs in the back". I thought maybe I was on drugs.

Read my 72 gmc build thread below it might interest you. Poster above is correct, 2011 and up will not work, ask me how I know.

Look into conversion lug nuts from the lug nut king.

I think the guy you need help from is Mr. Lugnut. He has a lugnut that will work with the steel or alloy wheels[up to 2010] apparently, that will screw on to your lug studs, and has the external threads to fasten the center cap. there are quite a few guys[sorry members] that have posted their trucks with the alloy wheels I think they look real good other have differing opinions. The offset is a little different and it moves the wheel towards inboard. Jim

Yeah, the post '10 GM 8-lug pattern went metric. No comment on that (blank) move. The SAE conversion duplex lugs are pretty commonly available. I'd think a good local tire store could fix you up. Of course, Lugnut King will be half the price most likely, and probably get to you faster. I've been using those conversion lug nuts for years to use factory center caps on custom wheels on older trucks

Re: Modern 8 lug wheels ?

When I first read (not in this thread) that the bolt circle diameter had changed, I went out and put my 16" spare on my truck. It's from a '90s truck, so it fit OK. I'd've been in big trouble if I'd had a flat and the wheel didn't fit. Of course, I went camping several times with no spare at all...this truck came with the spare wheel only. I can't make any sense of that at all. Got a blowout? No problem, there's a spare bare wheel right here under the truck!

The 2011+ are a different bolt pattern and that’s fine… what is so diabolical is the fact that they aLLLLLLmost fit. But they don’t.

This long thread ( https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=330740 ) has a lot of wheel and center cap options including late model Chevy and GMC wheels, caps, etc. I am running first generation chrome Hummer H2 wheels with 265/65-17 tires on my '69. They are 17' wheels which also offset the wheel a bit farther out than than the early 2000s Chevy/GMC wheels. Posts 250, 255, and 289 in that thread contain my early inputs.

These pics show the final result.

Re: Modern 8 lug wheels ?

I appreciate all the replies . The wheels are older than 2010 so they should fit . I found the correct duplex conversion lugs on e-bay for $40 bucks . Ill post pics when I get them installed .
