66 gmc
Hi, my name is Kent. I've been working on a 66 GMC truck for about a year now. It was a rust pile that did not run when I bought it. Now it runs well and looks good. I've rebuilt almost everything on it. The latest was new headers and exhaust. I got the headers on but having some issues with loss of power. I'm hoping to get some tune-up advice. Thanks!

Re: 66 gmc
Welcome from the Island Kent!
Vancouver Island that is. Headers lean out your motor. You need to rejet or add a bunch of initial timing. Timing is easier. What motor/trans you got? |

Re: 66 gmc
Hey thanks guys...im excited to be here! Everyone on here has a lot of good advice. And thanks Geezer#99...I figured I would need to play with timing, but I only have a harbor freight gun that doesn't work. I kind of figured ide have to retard the timing? But you say advance a lot? How much? And is the only way to get my Quadro jet carburator to run more rich is to change the jets? Thanks for the advice!

Re: 66 gmc
Try your initial at 14. Plug off the vac advance when you set it.
You should start a thread in the engine section or 60-66 section to get more help. |
