Dana 44-8F
My 70 k5 has drums all the way around and I want to convert it to front discs.
I bought a front diff that has 44-8F in the casting. The overall width is greater than that of my current Dana 44. Any one know what this is out of? My plan is to swap from the knuckles out only - anyone know if I will run into any compatibility issues? |
Re: Dana 44-8F
Been doing a little searching. Is it possible this is a 3/4 ton 6 lug Dana 44?

Re: Dana 44-8F
I will need to get the id numbers off it when I get home.

Re: Dana 44-8F
i think the axles are the same.. only the outers are the difference between 1/2 and 3/4 ton
im assuming yours is open knuckle.. when you go to disc be sure to swap your master cyl to a disc/drum version |
Re: Dana 44-8F
6 lug to 8 lug, the axle itself is the same. 8 lug is wider, not sure exactly where, either hub bearings or rotor combo.

Re: Dana 44-8F
603675 = 1976 1/2 ton Chevy
C-C = ~56.5” My 70 c-c= ~54.25” That’s from the top of each housing. |
