Loose D/S Mirror - Pivot

2005 Tahoe Z71 with remote power mirrors. Driver side mirror pivots or moves slightly each time the door is closed. I don't slam doors, just a solid close and the door latches good. Seems there is ... NO... way to tighten such after looking at the outer housing under side of the mirror? Suggestions or hints, really is irritating when I have to lower the window and move mirror out each time you close the door.

Power folding or just power adjusting mirror?

Just the usual power adjusting mirrors. P/S is fine but every time I close the door, the mirror slips inward a bit from normal position and has to be re-adjusted back to normal outward or "de-fault" position, LOL. Bit of computer lingo slipped in there.

Sounds like some of the innards have come loose in the mirror.
Might be fun to do an autopsy to see what broke but I'd have a replacement on hand.
You can get aftermarket replacements for around $110. You can get em used but it's a good thing to know the new price before you talk to the salvage carnies.

Thanks, hatzie, that's kinda what I was thinking. Seems most anything on vehicles now days is not very user friendly for repair, replace only.

Lots of plastic to get brittle and these are pushing two decades old now.

ya these mirrors don't really dissamble either. only the glass can be replaced and even that sucks.

Ever try removing the glass from a broken mirror housing? I replaced my right hand mirror since the housing was split and broken but the glass is good. Maybe keep it for future need '' if '' it can be removed intact?

on my 02 sierra I still have my passenger glass broke after 10 years lol. I had a spare mirror off a parts truck, I tried pulling the good glass from that to use on my broken glass mirror and I destroyed it, so I gave up. I'm sure it's easy if you start with a replacement glass instead of trying to pull one off of a mirror.

Since the RH plastic mirror housing is broke my thoughts were to carefully break the housing away to get to the back section of the mirror. Proceed from there and continue to remove as much plastic as possible until possibly can use a heat gun on the mirror back to remove it? Nothing to lose by trying it since the mirror is already trashed.

That's probably the best way to go about it. The ring of plastic clips don't like to release.
If it's OEM glass it's worth keeping cuz it's not a fun house mirror

May be awhile before I get to this little project. We topped out at 107 today with very little wind, lots of sun and abundant humidity. I don't do those combinations nearly as well as I used to. Will wait for cooler temps and bring this back to the top with the results. :chevy:

I was working on Mobile Electronics AVL & passenger counters at KCATA a couple years ago about this time of year. I was working on transit coaches along with Superior & Eldorado cutaway conversion buses inside the parking garage.

The temps during the day were over 100° and the humidity felt like San Juan PR. Miserable is being nice. I was walking out of the hotel in the afternoon after I'd washed up and I was immediately soaking wet.
When I was working overnight so i could get out of there faster it was still pretty miserable.

Rock Auto has them depending on what you want, $25.00 up to around $108.00. I just replaced both of my Silverado mirrors last week with exactly the same as OEM for less than 100.00 bucks.
