Hi guys, I’ve got this 1972 GMC truck
That is Factory White over Parchment
I am unfamiliar with GMC’s
By the spid is it the equivalent
Of a
Custom?
Or
Custom Deluxe?

Interior pictures are the way it sits now

Should it have
Deluxe door panels?
Or
Standard?

Should it have
Carpet?
Or
Floor mat?

Should the seat cover be
Vinyl ?
Or
Cloth ?

Re: —STOCK—GMC - interior HELP

The trim levels were Custom, Super Custom (Custom Deluxe), Sierra (Cheyenne), and Sierra Grande (guess). Looks like with no code showing yours is a custom and would have the plain door panels, pedals, etc. I see a lot of changes made, such as the '67 vent window, Super Custom door panel, trimmed pedals, tilt, carpet, and seat cover. Still has the plain dome lamp and knobs. That is a good one with great options on a base trim truck

Don’t think I’ve seen a paint stripe on a white truck. Are the stripes black?

That’s a base model truck Eric. It would have the Plain all vinyl seat, black rubber mat, and plain non scroll door panels.

I believe SMS has the material to make a correct seat cover.

gmc brochure question from a gmc novice.. :) Did GMC not have a cloth trim option (equivalent to Chev Custom Deluxe)?
I noticed the brochure only shows the two vinyl options (I think) and the custom cloth in the Sierra Grande - whereas Chev had four interior options, one for each trim level (and GMC has 4 trim levels as Tim mentioned above, right? so I know I must be missing something simple...) (the answer may be in the wording on the brochure, but I can't quite read it)

Everything is the same as Chevy. I don't know why they don't show the Super Custom (Custom Deluxe) interior

Yep, base model is the Custom.

These are from my 1971 color and trim book don’t know how much changed in 72….hopefully they load better

awesome, thanks for posting those! interesting, looks like the 71 custom cab (cloth) seat in your 71 book isn't included in the 72 brochure of your earlier post. I'm wondering now too if something changed between 71 and 72. Maybe the addition of the Sierra Grande trim (which I am assuming was a mid-year 71 intro like it was for Chevs) prompted the removal of the Custom Cab cloth seat cover in 72? (but that doesn't make sense either because Chevy didn't replace a seat cover option when the Super came out - they added the seat cover to the existing ones). I'm a GMC idiot - I admit it! :)

Sierra Grande came late '69, but it was an option on top of the Super Custom trim level. Same as Sierra

This one is a '69 Sierra. Notice the Custom script on the door as well as Sierra on the bedside, and the 68-70 grille

Re: —STOCK—GMC - interior HELP

Thanks guys
68bowtie- It has been painted so the paint stripe is gone
I would assume it was black ?

It would be cool to keep this truck with parchment interior
I’m typically a build it to the spid, guy
But
With all the changes it has already
I’m contemplating doing
Seat
Visors
Seatbelts
And door panels (standard ones)
In
Saddle

I just think it will look better matching the cluster, glovebox and dash pad
As well as it already having saddle carpet

Who knows, maybe even a saddle pin stripe ?

:chevy:Time will tell:chevy:

Tim, just saw your post
Again, I don’t know GMC’s
I’m not even sure of what the grill differences were year to year ?

Here is the grill on my truck
And
A grill on an all original 72

We’re all the 72 grills blacked out like in the lower one shown ?
Also
I believe my truck would have had a painted bumper
Not chrome

Kind of a fun learning process for me

Re: —STOCK—GMC - interior HELP

Yeah, the black accent has faded off your grille. The difference in 71/72 grilles is that accent paint, but there's more. That center vertical is also wider. Around the openings is a raised edge the black accent goes into but chrome remains on that edge. Much like the look of 67/68 Chevy grille trim. The 71/72, if you look at it long and hard, can appear to be separated like a Pontiac. If that black was body color it would be more obvious.

I go with as built as well, but for whatever reason, ever since I've had my '72 K2500 I've had another color envisioned. At that time I had two hi option '72 K/20s I never planned to deviate from the SPID on. Now that it's my only 3/4t 4wd it has gone back to keep original and now to build it as the ultimate truck I always wanted from factory because it's my keeper and a tribute to my longtime devotion to these 3/4t 4wd GMs, over 40 years now.

Here's a real life sample of what you are considering for your GMC. I have the Saddle dash pieces but haven't installed yet. And the tilt is a rebuild I bought from Cheyenne Superman in '91 for another truck I had, as well as the seat and dash pieces:

Here's a few pics of member toms68cst truck. It's the only white truck I've seen with the D89 paint stripe. Yep, the stripe is black and so are the CHEVROLET letters on the tail gate. Unfortunately I couldn't find many pics of his truck. Sure would like to see more.

And another question
.
When I took this picture to send to a friend from the board
It made me question?

Did 1972 GMC's
Put an engine size emblem beneath the front
Marker light ??

Looks good and looks like you went with new Standard Door Panels. Were they brand new? And if so, where did you find them?

The spid
Shows 350

I believe on 1972 Chevrolet's
Engine size emblem is always under front marker?

Did GMC's also do this ??

I looked inside fenders
No holes filled
But i am unsure is fenders have been replaced

This truck had many things that were changed (upgraded)
Over its lifetime
For the most part, I try to put them back to original
Unless it takes to much effort
Or costs to much
I don't think those door panels are available aftermarket?
I had a few pairs laying around
So I sem painted them, for close match

GMC never did engine badges. They did put V-Six or V-Eight on base trim truck fender badges where the trim level would be denoted

I've been thinking it's more like:

68-69: V-SIX or V-EIGHT regardless of trim level
70-71: Blank for In-line six (V6 discontinued on light duty), or V-EIGHT, and still regardless of trim level
71.5 (maybe) and 72: GMC switches to trim level callouts on fender badge

That seems to make sense
At least on this 72 truck
Original badges say 'custom'
Below the GMC

Even though it had a 350 from the factory
According to the spid

So I replaced them with what was on the truck
