Crossmember swap L6 question
Hey guys, I have a 60 half ton. I’m doing the mental prep work for a crossmember swap. I currently have a 235 straight six and while I would eventually like a small block or LS, I’m in no hurry to ditch the 6. From what I can gather, 63 was the first year the L6 used “normal” motor mounts. I guess the previous years used the funky middle of the crossmember mount.
So has anyone swapped a later crossmember into a 60-62 truck and kept their straight 6? If it’s gonna be a pain to fab new mounts for my 235 then it seems like I should just go ahead and put the v8 in. Im sure I could get a beater small block for $500 to tide me over. Opinions? |

I have a 61 I did the cross member swap on but it has an LS, but this is an original 61 frame with a 235 in it I'm going to use for my 62. It looks like you could swap the cross member and build mounts to mount the engine using the 3 bolt holes on the block. I have this frame and engine sitting out front of my garage if you need any pictures or measurements. The 235 is out of a 62 Impala if that matters.

Hey 62 thanks. I guess I need to research motor mounts some more before I know what I should do.
