I've used WD-40 with good results. Spray on and let soak for a few minutes. Clean after adhesive removed with Dawn dish soap. Goo-gone should work well too. Do not use gasoline or paint thinner.

Yep, WD-40 and wash. The oil will take it off so easily. I wouldn't bother with goo gone, ever. I find it worthless. Edit: Heat it up with a blow drier.

Depends on what was used. The glue on my 72 was stupid hard in some areas. Not likely a weather stripping glue. Nothing would soften it. I was painting so not an issue to wire wheel it being careful with the seam areas. If I was just changing weather stripping, I would have gotten the soft stuff off with WD40, or goof off, and left the hard glue in place and resealed with correct glue if needed. If you have some rust showing anywhere under the stripping and not painting, dab some converter on the spots just to slow things down. Certainly not a permanent solution but buys time and reduces forward progress of the rust. Most converters turn the rust and bare metal to a mat black color.

You could try a 3M "eraser" wheel. Goes in a drill. Works well for taking decals off. Taking off double sided tape left on the body after removing the body moldings.
We use it all the time at the body shop I help at a couple days a week.

Cuz I have it on hand, I use PBlaster. I also use a piece of paper towel, sprayed w/Pb, and placed on the item to be removed. Helps to let it soak in. Can reapply PB as needed.

HTH...Don.
