Don't know if this helps but over on corvetteforums.com there is carb guy that goes by "Lars" that is held in very high regards.

I learned on the quadrajet as a teen and have never owned any other brand carb. I always rebuilt my own.

My first carb overhaul was on a 4gc Rochester. Imagine the look on this 18 year-old's face when he turned it over and all those check balls fell out. :lol: And the exploded diagram was little help. Q-Jets are a piece of cake compared to those things. Still ran well after installation, but I was sweating bullets.
