Rear shock mount rust ?
1 Attachment(s)
There seems to be a large area between my rear shock mount and the trailing arm that has some pretty serious rust going on . What do I need to do to fix this ? Do I need new rear shock mounts or can this be dealt with otherwise ?

I don't have suggestions but subscribed to see what comes of this. My shock is attached on the outside of the shock mount, not inside like yours. I'm curious about that, too.

Re: Rear shock mount rust ?
It’s hard to say how bad it really is until you take it apart and clean it all up, that will determine what needs to be done to fix it. A lot of times rust can expand like that but the real damage not be too bad on thicker steel. My suggestions is to take it apart and get a flap disk on the areas in question to cut thru the rust and see what it looks like from there.

Re: Rear shock mount rust ?
As previously stated by 57taskforce only disassembling it will tell the truth.
I will add that in my experience you will need new U-bolts to reassemble it. The hassle of fighting to remove the nuts on those and the likelihood of them being compromised by the corrosion isn't worth the work. I would just cut them with a cut off disk and be done. Just my opinion and along with a ten spot they'll get you a steaming hot cup of Joe just about anywhere. |
