Don't remember. Guess it's time to change it, as I did that over a year ago. My econobox got whatever the dealer puts in it at the semi-annual oil change interval. It's synthetic, is all I could tell you. This is a far cry from how I used to use and monitor oils, but now that I'm old...

I run Kirkland (Costco) full synthetic 5w30 in the L31 Vortec I built a few years ago. It runs as smooth as can be.

I am a Valvoline guy from way back, but I run Mobile Delvac 1300 15/40 in my gasoline engines now. It has the same amount of zinc as VR1 and costs $4.50qt. We use Mobile Delvac oil in our trucks and heavy equipment.

The cheapest non house brand synthetic at walmart. Usually about $23/5QT containers.

Re: Oil. What’s in your engine?

I'm not one to change brands, much. I have used Quaker State for years and Pennzoil for many more and have no complaints with either of them. 10w30 mostly. I tried Valvoline in one of my trucks some years back thinking I was stepping up and treating it right, not knowing the truck's history. It thanked me by blowing blue smoke within days. Proves the old adage "never change brands of engine oil". So I did the right thing and changed it right away to QS or PZ. Smoke went away.

On a related note, the NAPA parts guy told me their platinum oil filter for SBC is being discontinued. It has synthetic material for the filter elements he claimed holds up better than the plant based cellulose filter elements in their “gold” filter, which he claimed degrades after a year soaked in oil.

I use Amsoil in my newer vehicles.

I use Valvoline (conventional) in my tractors and lawnmowers and old stuff.

Years ago I used Castrol GTX faithfully.
