manual trans availbility?

My father-in-law's 73 3/4T 4x4 Burb is shot (rust) and he wants to replace it with a used rig but it must have a manual tranny, which we cannot seem to find. What years can I find the manual trans? He would like 73 or newer.
Thanks,
Steve

VERY! VERY! VERY! rare burb option. Pretty well limited to Contractor/FS/Survey specials. I have never personnaly seen one. I am aware of only two. One is owned by a Guy on Airstream Forums and one is owned by a guy on CK5.

Personnaly I would look for 87 up 3/4 ton. The FI makes it cheap to run. 8600lb GVWR might get emissions exempt like it is here. in 90 you could get the OD tranny and they did ok MPG wise. They are also dip galvanized starting in 86 and don't rust out nearly as bad. All 3/4's before 90 had the TH400 and it's as bullit proof as a auto gets.

Yes, it's extremely rare. In fact, I'd never heard of one nor seen one until last month. Even, then, it was in South America, Chile to be exact!

Found via this thread (yes, on another board)
