I think you have that backwards.: If you spray fuel or started fluid down the carb and it runs momentarily that indicates a fuel delivery issue and the ignition is OK. If it won't fire with starter fluid or fuel sprayed in there, you likely have an ignition issue.

Could also be a vacuum leak in the carb or manifold. Check all fittings, ports, and lines to/from those.
