Sounds like you've got a collapsed pressure plate. Does the pedal seem to have a lot of travel before you feel any resistance? Do you have excessive freeplay at the top of the pedal? Happened to me years ago on a car I had in High School. Sold it because I couldn't figure out the problem. Duh, wish I had that 57 Chevy wagon back now. Check your clutch linkage for bends also. Hope this helps?
