Dude, I know what that's like, I drove my sisters nissan from Myrtle Beach, SC to Miami one summer about 15 years or so ago. Her ac was broke, and it would not stay in 4th gear. I think I took a shoelace out to keep it in gear, it was hot and it stormed about 500 miles out of the 750 or so miles it took to get home.
Never again.
