A unique and easy to do modification that is well within your skill level would be to take a 1/4" drill bit (preferably attached to the drill motor of your choice) - and swiss cheese your muffler bodies till the desired decibel level is reached.

Then, when you are satisfied that loud pipes is not the only way to go for the chicks and the glory, just wrap them up again with some stainless tape.

I discovered this mod when looking under the chassis of a friend's '68 Camaro about 17 years ago and was as amazed then as i would be now
